It does sort of weed out the lowest common denominator, the super casual turkers that don't use any tools, or only log on casually only once in a while (not that it's necessarily a good or bad thing to weed them out). These are probably the same people that really won't bother to investigate very much to find stuff if it's not right there in front of them, either.

Like, a week into Mullen's project, I remember people here still popping up saying "what are these Fios HITs everyone's talking about?? I searched for Fios and didn't find anything?!!" If the requester name or the link were being posted left and right in the forum, those would have been devoured even faster.

Did mine last night. Easiest ten bucks I have done since that one time at band camp.

Hey, I ended up using the command line interface, but it's a really convoluted process, you have to sign up for Amazon AWS and all this stuff. It's probably a lot easier to just put up a 0.00 hit for them to do so you have their ID on record, and then assign the qual in the dashboard.

    Woohoo!

A 15-minute HIT I did this morning for $1, paid me a nice bonus this afternoon. It said to expect a bonus between $0 and $4, but I guess I got lucky:

    Greetings from Amazon Mechanical Turk,

You've received a bonus from SE for work related to 35O6H0UNLSGHFKVGC658XQTGY9DJ5Z.
The value of your bonus is: $7.16 USD

    The Requester included this note:
    Performance.

Thanks for being a Worker on Mechanical Turk!

    Sincerely,
    Amazon Mechanical Turk

Yep that's what I've always done but was curious if there was some more simple way. This person better be worth the penny I'm about to spend.

Yeah I get what you're saying. I don't actually lurk too many places these days since I'm usually fairly busy but I'm fairly sure those have been posted. Or talked about. Or asked about. Or somethin'. The group has a lot of masters, so I'm sure there's been Q&A about those hits, too.

But for those who are turking savvy, they could easily cut through the code name crap, find the hit group using TO, yoink a panda off that...or run a search on Mturk for the requester, set up a watcher in TM for that, use the result from that to create the panda for next time, or run a URL watcher and blah blah blah blah blah blah. Isn't really that hard. It's how I do it all the time (usually using Scraper to help me Sherlock once things fly off the shelf there). You don't really need the forum for that.

Oh sure, but I'm talking about the people who don't even go that far. The ones that have barely any scripts installed, and just go "imma log onto mturkforum today and look at the thread and do the HITs that the people there post for me, since when I search, all I find are Breligs."

You might want to ask Arby when he's around, he does it a different way as far as I know. Otherwise, spending a penny (which means going to the bathroom in the UK coincidentally) seems easiest. Unless some other jerk keeps accepting the 0.00 hit. Ugh.

I really don't think there are that many of those. And they're likely not going to be much competition no matter what you post. LOL.

    *open hit* *words* *close hit*

LOL! I used to be that person. That's why my dash looked like this:

    2013 $11.64
    2012 $0.05
    2011 $0.01
    2010 $151.44

ETA: But I didn't even use the forum. I just logged on and looked.

I still am that person. With new OCMP quals mostly. Or anything that wants me to read a Google Doc.

Trust me, you guys aren't fighting me for OCMP39 or whatever the hell is posting these days.

There are a lot of days I am still that person. I am trying to not be that way, but if my brain is fried (which happens a lot in my stressful environment) then I just can't instructions or surveys. I am hoping things will be calmer next week after they get him out of here and I can take a week off from everything, go visit family and then come back and be able to work better.

I've been that person for six years.

Not everybody is looking to make a career out of this. Some of us just do it when we need a few extra dollars to get through the week.

I guess I agree with you on the latter point but not the former, I think more than 75% of people viewing this forum on an average day (obvously mostly lurkers with <5 posts/year, and browsing non-members) fit this description.

    I think that's pretty accurate.

Oh for sure, and I'm not even making any value judgments here. But it's not just the frequency of turking I'm talking about. Some people only do it here and there but they mean business when they do log on; others are all about crossing their fingers and hoping something good gets posted here, otherwise they make like a buck fitty over the course of an hour.

I feel like I kind of fit that description. I don't post much and I usually check the last few pages of this thread before getting my scraper going, but that's because I'm terrible at keeping track at good requesters/good batches and I struggle to do this on my own xD But I definitely complete way more HITs from my scraper from this thread. I do appreciate people posting pandas for good hits and batches because I'm terrible at sorting through batches and figuring out which ones are worthwhile.

Using my brain costs extra. A lot extra. I'll put my heart and soul into a project I'm being paid professionally for, sure. But for pennies? Plz. Better write that shit in big ole crayon letters.

I did a Sticky yesterday or the day before that asked which character(s) I think will die LOL!!!

I really hope that Cersei knocks the crap out of that religious cult, especially that nasty nun. I wanna see some GORY torture scenes and I want them in the very first episode of the season!
