Yeah this site is pretty useless as far as affiliate marketing and ad space are concerned. No money in it. You'd probably earn more with a container tomato gardening site.
I mean, this is a site for people with ostensibly little disposable income trying to turn pennies into gold. Also, let's not get into tomatoes again. That discussion got ugly. *cough*corupt*couch*
Yeah, you can't determine concrete figures based on Alexa rankings. However, you can make a good guess based on traffic. Your site probably failed to pull in ad revenue because the primary users are the same people, and almost all of them use adblock, or are contributors etc. Your friend might be selling direct ads, which is much more profitable if implemented right, and with good clients.
LOL, oh no wonder tomatoes popped into my head so easily. I forgot about that convo from earlier. Hahaha.
Alexa does not estimate ad revenue. It's an Amazon site that estimates site traffic. While their algorithm can be pretty skewed, it is still the best way to estimate a site's traffic (that isn't yours). As far as adsense is concerned, traffic can be used to estimate earnings based on traffic source country, niche etc. e.g if I told you "hey Bal, the video you uploaded last week now has 100k views," you would be able to guess how much cash that translates to in your analytics dashboard, right?
Never said it did. You said in your post: Youtube/adsense is a bit different now with the Youtube Red program, along with the specific video content, and large percentage of users using a form of ad blocking. But really, no. You can have one video with 100k views that makes bank, and another video with 100k views that doesn't make hardly anything.
What zingy said before is right though, it's about the niche, and this is the wrong niche for ads and spending. If this were like 99% of other forums, aka dedicated to common interest in a hobby/job/fandom which ultimately results in purchases, traffic would translate into $$$. But... we're the 1%
But you implied that I did. It doesn't matter either way. I am just making the point that you cannot estimate adsense revenue on website statistics. It won't be even close to half accurate
It is common knowledge that forums aren't the way to go for ad revenue. However, if the site owner is a cutthroat businessman with no regard for user experience, it can still be profitable. User experience concerns is primarily what holds it back.
Adsense is also terribly unreliable. They can (and often do) kick people off the program for any little thing if they choose to. Not really a primary money maker for sites these days.
Most posts are made by a fairly small core base of posters. If you piss them off, they'll just start their own forum and take the base with them. Source: been there, done that.
I implied that you could probably guess what your views on a specific video translate to, because most people can. I can generally estimate how much my youtube views generate, before checking it. Different perspectives, I guess.
Anyways not a big deal I wanted to buy a small site to help my family ISP get the word out everyday and also generate small revenue. . . .CyberStreet, Inc.
