I'm don't mind, I was actually weirdly glad that he finally put ads up. Plus it's only one banner that's easy to ignore, and I'm sure most people here have adblock on.
I used to be active on a major football forum that got a lot more traffic than any turking forum will ever get, and the forum aspect of the site was still not making money, from what I understand. The owner made his money from ad revenue on his main site, and from radio and TV interviews. I'm pretty sure that he hated the forum, and only kept it up because he had such a large community, lol.
He'll certainly get more than $1k for it. The adsense revenue alone would be more than $1k a month, if I estimate by the Alexa rank.
Alexa rank barely means much in terms of revenue generated by a site, especially a forum. My old forum was ranked very well globally and domestically in the United States and still failed to pull in $10/month on ad revenue. I couldn't even sell ad space with affiliate marketing, the niche of the website matters more than how popular the site is. One of my friends manages a video game related forum and pulls in thousands a month off of ad space for example.
adsense revenue estimations are almost always way overestimated on those ranking sites. Add in that 50% of people use an adblocking method most likely
