Even though the pay is crap, I enjoy doing the James Hays hits where you draw a picture. They're a fun go to when I'm transcribed out with CrowdSurf.
Regardless of anyone's opinions of how the 1% spend their money, there's just no way that the US can have stable, long term economic health with income inequality at banana republic levels. I don't know what the best way is to fix it: raise the minimum wage to a living wage, provide tax incentives to corporations who pay their employees more than industry standards, simply raise taxes on the wealthy and redistribute it to the poor, or something else. There are some things I do know, though. It's not right that capital gains are taxed at a much lower rate than earned income. It's not right that CEO's in the United States make 100's of times more than their employees do, and that the gap is significantly higher than in other industrialized countries. It's not right that the Waltons, a family that controls more wealth than the bottom 40% of all Americans, gets billions in taxpayer subsidies because they don't pay their employees a living wage or provide them with health insurance. No one who works for the wealthiest family in the country should be receiving food stamps because they can't afford to feed their own family. The way things are going is not sustainable for the majority of Americans (except for the wealthiest of us, who are doing just fine).
Im not sure why you quoted my post. It was a response to the fact that she did not seem to get the point that my original post was sarcasm. Maybe sarcasm is simply lost on the people of this forum. Thats sad really.
It sounded more like you were using hyperbole, not sarcasm. I was trying to make the same point you made in your earlier post but in a serious way, while still acknowledging Bobbie's assertion that not everything the rich spend their money on is self-indulgent or unnecessary.
Well tax incentives for companies to pay workers a living wage and insurance will not work because they currently do not pay taxes now. Stopping loopholes were they simply suck wealth out of america through offshore accounts would be a good start. Some would say this would simply make companies move out of america which really does not matter, the way capitalism works is that a competitor will simply take their place, and companies do have a vested interest to stay in america, all currency is tied to America. Raising tax on the wealthy is also a great start they need to pay just like the rest of us, they drive on the roads, they rely on law enforcement, fire departments, schools, and all other manners of public systems which they should fund according to the income they accrue. There also needs to be a cap on CEO's pay, when millions are going into their pockets instead of the workers that actually generate it. I completely agree the way our economy is set up, it is just not possible for america to stay competitive for much longer in the global market.
