I received and email from Amazon payments yesterday saying this...

So I went to verify my identity information and figured that would help. Then I received this email soon after...

    Greetings from Amazon Payments.

I can't seem to find out what to do at this point to verify my account any further. Has anyone encountered anything like this?

    I'm seeing this message...

    Error in Requested Operation

You cannot change your tax identification information right now. The information you entered previously is still under review.

    And also this information...

    Important Message:

As a result of changes to federal regulation, Amazon Payments is required to verify your identity. This functionality is temporarily disabled, pending verification of your information.

How long does it take to verify this information? I re-entered my information, my address, social security number etc..

    Help is greatly appreciated .

MY husband had to fax a copy of his id and email a screenshot of him logged in on our banking website, on the info page showing name and address. They asked for a fax of bank statement but the screenshot worked.

Do they do this often? I had no issue verifying my account the first time. Why would they want me to verify it again?

I have no idea. I verified my account with no problem but it took a week to verify my husband's. Here is a copy of the email they sent him requesting the info. Maybe you can contact the right people directly. They sent us from one person to another for a week.

    Greetings from Amazon Payments.

Thank you for contacting us regarding your account,

We are writing with regards to your Amazon Payments account. It appears that your account is on hold as we have not been able to verify your account information.

In order to verify your account information, we kindly request that you please provide the following:

    1. A copy of an official letter addressed to you and mailed to your residence(address provided during registration) in the US. (An official letter that confirms the same address that you have registered with when signing up for your Amazon Payments Account (bank statement, utility bill, etc))

You can fax this documentation; our toll free fax number 1-800-887-0540. To ensure that your fax is processed in a timely manner, please be sure to include the email address associated with your Amazon Payments account.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact us at payments-verification@amazon.com. Thank You for your compliance with our verification procedures.

I think the problem with his might have been that we recently moved so the address they pulled up on his info didn't match the address he registered with.

Was this the first time to verified or did they ask you to verify after you had been turking for a while?

This happened to me maybe four months after I first registered for Mturk and set up my account. They sent me an email on the subject, and I followed their instructions to the letter, which involved providing certain personal information for my online account. But two days later, while I was on vacation, I got an email that they had temporarily suspended my account because I had not properly verified my account. They even told me that none of my pending payments would go through.

As soon as I got back from vacation, I called them, and they verified the same information on the phone that I had previously entered online. I asked several times what the nature of the problem was, but they never answered my questions, always changing the subject. They apologized a few times, but never told me why we were going what we were doing. I think resolving the problem only took one or two calls, and all of my blocked payments went through a day or two later.

It's been six months, and I haven't heard anything about anything like this since.

Oddly enough, it seems just about every turker goes through this early in their careers...I wonder why? They certainly didn't want to tell me...

Hey, I really appreciate your insight. I've been turking since October 2012 but started seriously in February. Hopefully this gets resolved quickly because I need to pay my rent. :\

How long did it take you once you re-entered your information?

I haven't. I re-verified my information about 2 hours ago so I'm just waiting around wondering why they needed me to do this, if I was in trouble or...who knows?

Your best bet is to contact them. I had received an e-mail back in November stating:

But when I tried to login and update it (even though I had entered it previously):

So I contacted them and they said:

I haven't had an issue since. I don't know what the problem was originally.

Something similar happened to me a few months ago. In fact it has happened to a few people on the forum. In my experience the automated system and cryptic emails lead nowhere. I went through a similar situation and did the verification steps but it ended up accomplishing nothing and my payment account was suspended. After playing email tag for a few days the finally asked me to use a previous address. I entered an old address that I had lived at for many years prior and set that as my primary and it went through. I think more often than not the address is the issue assuming everything else is on the up and up. Short term addresses are more difficult for them to verify.

I see. I've been living at this residence for about 6 months, perhaps this is why? I'm just a bit shook up because I didn't expect this to happen.

Again, it seems to happen to a large chunk of turkers. I had signed up in May, and started seriously working in September. I got the first email in October. I had been living at my residence for maybe five years.

Even after I did the what email instructed, they still cut off my account. Because I was out of town, with no access to a PC, I had to wait two or three days before I could call them on the phone. I was very unhappy. But my account access was restored almost as soon as I was off the phone after the first call, and my blocked payments all went through, although I did have to make a second phone call to verify this (the reports on amazonpayments.com can be confusing).

I know what it's like to have your account threatened like this, but really, try not to worry. It just about always works out in the end. And there's nothing you can really do anyway except to follow their instructions.

I'm having much the same problem. However, on my end, I just signed up for MTurk 2 days ago, got verified today, put in my info for Amazon Payments and within 10 minutes it was restricted. I know for a 100% fact my information was correct. I also have lived at my residence for my whole life, which is also in the US.

I read that if you have no work history attached to your SSN, then the Amazon system can't verify you and auto denies you. I have never been employed, so I feel that may be the issue I am having.

Does anyone have any tips for getting through this aside from the dreaded e-mail/phone tag (and even within those, any tips to help get the desired results?)

I was so excited to start Turking only to have it taken away, and all the MTurk alternates online are terrible, so I appreciate any help!
