Hey guys! This is our official movie club thread. Feel free to bounce ideas around to figure out how we wanna run this. For those who don't know, we've been talking about starting some kind of forum-based club - books, movies, etc. Movies are probably easiest since there won't be as big of a time commitment as reading whole novels, and it's easy to participate. I'm thinking we vote on a film to watch, watch it, and meet up at some specified time somewhere and chat about it. Either live chat or we could just start a thread someplace. Up to you! All ideas welcome, so feel free to offer suggestions. Thanks! Edit: Gonna simplify things for now - use this thread to chat about mooooviieeeeees!!!!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA no. How do people feel about IRC for chat? or would you rather have a forum thread to write in? or both?
I am interested in your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. I predict it's going to take a while to narrow down the first movie. My suggestion: we pick some kind of outside standard list to narrow it down, like the AFI's top 100 movies, or something.
Maybe we ought to have two picks? A serious one and a silly one, and you can watch either or both as you have time.
We could do that, too. We could do this one of two ways: 1) General movie chat - see something, strike up a convo about it, encourage others to see it, etc. 2) More structured where we pick a movie, all watch it, and then discuss it. Of course, we could also do a mixture of both. Anyone have any preferences?
I would go with 1. Mainly because we tried 2 in a Scrubs forum that I mod and got very few people to watch the particular episode and discuss it. We tried that for weeks and it just didn't get enough posts to make it worthwhile. I'm a movie fanatic. My DVD collection is over a thousand. Doesn't grow much now since streaming became so mainstream. I always enjoy discussions regarding particular genres and what peoples favorites are in them.
I agree! The free form option seems to be a good format to go with. That way people don't feel obligated to sit through movies they won't enjoy and there aren't any time constraints. Of course, we could always throw some of option 2 in there on occasion if we all find we agree on something in particular. So you guys wanna just keep this thread as our movie chat homebase? See a film you like, make a post about it in here, etc?
I'll kick it off by saying Kingsman is a great movie. I saw it twice in as many days in the theater. It's funny and completely over the top with the action. It also has one of the best single action scenes I've ever watched.
*Googles* http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2802144/ *peeks at cast* Samuel L. Jackson Oooh, I'm in. I haven't seen an action movie in literally *forever*. I've been on a huge drama kick lately.
I prefer option 2. Espically with sources like http://www.reddit.com/r/fullmoviesonyoutube/ we can use websites to synch the movie up for everyone to watch at once at a specified time
Twilight was just added to Netflix today. Coincidence? A few others added today that I might put in my queue: Patch Adams: 1999 Academy Awards® Best Music Score nominee 1999 Golden Globe Awards® Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) nominee Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) nominee The Master: 2013 Academy Awards® Best Supporting Actor nominee: Philip Seymour Hoffman Best Supporting Actress nominee: Amy Adams Best Actor nominee: Joaquin Phoenix 2013 BAFTAs® Best Supporting Actor nominee: Philip Seymour Hoffman Best Supporting Actress nominee: Amy Adams Best Actor nominee: Joaquin Phoenix 2013 Golden Globe Awards® Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture nominee: Philip Seymour Hoffman Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture nominee: Amy Adams Best Actor in a Motion Picture (Drama) nominee: Joaquin Phoenix The Angriest Man in Brooklyn: From 2014, with Robin Williams, Mila Kunis, Peter Dinklage, Melissa Leo
Or actually why not both methods? Option 1 most of the time, and Option 2 for weekends, like a group movie night
