What kept me going was that I found this place and it just happened to be on a day where people were making $75/hour doing some sort of sick transcription hits. I couldn't do them because you needed greater than 1000 hits, but that was what made me think that mtuck might not be scam.
Yeah, I seriously would not have made it without the forum. I know some people don't like to share batches or hits because it takes money out of their pockets, but if it wasn't for all the generous people that are willing to help and share hits I never would have gotten off the ground.
I found this place after ChaCha went through a change and the Work At Home Moms board all said mturk was the next best thing. I came here and wondered why I wasted 3 years of my life on chacha.
I think the first time I heard of turk was on a Disney forum where people were asking how to make extra money to save up for a trip. I had just quit my job and went back and found the thread listing ideas, and someone mentioned mturk and the mturkforum.
I quit for a couple weeks after I first joined and then I decided to try again and found the forum. Before that, I quit the day my boyfriend had taken a couple kids on a geocache, came back and asked me how much I had made. I looked at him all embarrassed and said ".09" lol I felt like an idiot and decided it was stupid. Glad I tried again.
When I first found this forum everyone was sharing all of the good hits. It wasn't until more forums opened up and hit scraper was born that it had to stop because there were too many people going after the same hits. Things were especially good around here when greatest hits was for registered users only and the only other forum was TN. Things started shifting at the end of 2013 when the flood gates opened.
I find it ironic that the same people who are reluctant to share got their start the same way the rest of us did, by the generosity of the forum members who do share.

I don't remember a time when the greatest hits was for registered users. I started in Jan of 2013. It must have been before my time. I think MTG only show their greatest hits thread to registered users but I could be wrong.
I try to share surveys if other people don't beat me to it. I'd share batches more often, but that pisses people off and I don't want to deal with their bitching. Lori is right. It used to be a lot different, but especially now that we have public sites scraping the forum, I can understand the reluctance to post batches.
It's kind of ironic that some of the tools that make turking easier (like HS) also end up making things harder for us overall because if it's easier then more people can get to it.
I wish more people would post batches. There's a lot I never get. Perhaps there SHOULD be a members only batch forum?

The thing I notice when I have mturk plus up, is that it posts our posts from here really fast, but it doesn't post things from hit scraper till a minute or two later.
I've been turking on and off for a almost 3 years and found this forum right away. It's gotten a lot less sharing and a lot more idle BS. Quick survey about your judgments. Takes about 5 minutes Requester: Altsuss Reward: $0.30 per HIT HITs Available: 0 Duration: 15 minutes Auto-Approval Time: 1 days Qualifications Required: test id has not been granted ; HIT approval rate (%) is not less than 95; Location is US Auto-Approval: 1 day
I just saw an add that said "Turn in your arms" and totally read that as "Turk in your arms" and was so confused. I do that a lot though. I'll be typing something with the word turn in it and I automatically write turk instead. I have to go back and correct it every single time.
This is also why I firmly support people posting their earnings as often as they want. I don't care if it's bragging or humble-bragging. It shows new people that if you grind through 1000 shitty hits then there's a light at the end of the tunnel. It's also good for veterans. I LIKE knowing that JAWN is at $122 when I'm sitting at $45. It makes me go "Oh shit, what am I missing?"
