Pieper, another thing you can do, that I find very helpful when I'm checking my own work or doing the CW "improve" hits, is to use the View Non-printing Characters page view in your word processor. That way you can actually see dots showing the spaces, and correct them if necessary. I will admit that changing other transcribers' double spacing back to single spacing drives me a little crazy...

Glad you like the search/replace, Pieper. And maggiemw's idea is a good one, too.

Sure, let me know by PM when you want input on those off-MTurk places!

No Kindle is actually no problem. Amazon has some free downloadable apps to choose from that let you read any Kindle ebook on your PC or Mac or even mobile device, and I have a little detail about that on the page for my book that's at my blog. A bit further 2c: all those apps work, but their Cloud Reader is probably my least favorite, because I think it's a little bit slower than the others and has fewer features. Sounds like you have a Windows PC, though, so you can just choose Kindle for PC! Download the software first and then get the book and tell Amazon to send it there; that's easiest.

You had to type in all that tagging? Ugh. Yeah, at least it's not quite that complicated to work on MTurk. And I agree with you that MTurk is an awesome place to get back in the swing of things, especially if you have been actively retired for a year and a half. Plus, once you're a Turker, you can always have it as an option, which is nice.

You have a great weekend, too! May things go smoothly.

Maggie: I have to really steel myself sometimes for Improve jobs. :) I have always wondered if anyone does them in large quantities, or if we all just take a nibble and then wait a while before doing more.

Video Transcription - Speaker Tags vs Paragraph Tags?

Does anyone on here know if you start a new paragraph for the same speaker, do you use the paragraph tag or the speaker tags for the new paragraph? I've read the specifications/style guide and I just need a little clarification. HELP!

    Hi, mrswgraham,

Video transcription is sort of its own thing. I assume you're talking about SpeechInk, because they're the main ones on MTurk who offer those kinds of HITs.

You might want to post your question in the thread that already exists for SpeechInk video transcription. There's a typo in its title, which makes it hard to search, but you should find it by searching on this string:

    Speechink Vdeo

    Good luck with it!
