Has anyone done hits for The Public Group? I did a bunch for them, they rejected around 80%, and I have no idea why. Asked them about it but have not heard back.

I'm new to Mechanical Turk, so this has put me in a bit of a hole of rejected hits. How can I avoid working for requesters like this going forward?

    Any advice appreciated.

The answer is quite simple, really: make good use of TurkOpticon, which is a tool workers use to rate requesters and the only [collective] voice we have.

You can either install a browser script (which you will find by clicking on the word "Scripts" at the top of this page) or access the web site directly: http://turkopticon.differenceengines.com and search the requester's name or ID number.

A word of caution, though: read every review. Ignore the complaints about slow pay because requesters aren't required to make a determination about our work / pay us immediately after we submit a HIT. Also, watch for workers who do crappy work, get rejections, and leave bad TO reviews because they will never admit they did a bad job. Finally, you will see that requesters use and manipulate TO instead of fixing the problems that damaged their reputations in the first place. It's not a perfect system, but it's better than flying solo, which is what you've been doing.

Read the reviews for this particular requester and you will see the story tells itself and you aren't the only one who has been stung.

DO NOT work for this POS company. They have rejected at least 9 of my HITs that I know are correct. Cheaters plain and simple.

I actually joined this forum to ask about The Public Group! I write resumes as PT work from home, and I was doing job/work classifications for them and they rejected a whole bunch of my selections, but I know for a fact I was hitting the nail on the head! I emailed amazon mturk asking them if there is a way I could contact TPG to ask them why they had not accepted some of my hits and "blocked" me (no word back yet). It freaked me out a little because the email mturk sent me about being blocked by TPG said if other requesters block me in the coming months they could suspend my account and end my work with them. I need this spare trickle of money coming into my household... I will definitely go and check out what you posted justcolleen!

better stay away from this requester. the reject a high amount of work and send out hard-blocks. not worth it to risk a good approval rating or even an account suspension

I also got nailed by them with three rejects out of the eight I did for them. What sucks is you don't get an explanation. Amazon should make it mandatory to include reasons for rejection. It would seem that would help Amazon in the long run because turkers could learn to do the HITs better and thus improve the overall turkforce.
