This has been my experience with tagging their videos: 1. None of the "quick keys" work except for the space bar to pause and play the video. 2. The timing of the mutes and skips are inaccurate because workers must select the amount of time from a preset list of seconds. This makes isolating a single profane word from its surrounding context words (as instructed in the training videos) in a rapidly paced video next to impossible, as the single word typically lasts for even less than the smallest 1-second mute. The only fail-safe option is to go against instructions and attempt to remove the entire phrase with a 1- or 2-second mute. Unfortunately, even that isn't a guarantee of accuracy, because the program doesn't actually place the mutes where they are calculated to be in the video. For instance, imagine I discover a profane word at 00:04:02 in a video. I pause and create a 1-second mute. I then play back the video to ensure the word has been muted, only to discover that the mute has inexplicably appeared at 00:04:00 or 00:04:04, muting unintended parts of the video and leaving the profane word intact. I delete the mute and try again, several times, pausing the video at slightly different intervals each time to create the mute, but little difference or improvement can be made. I don't know whether this is a problem unique to my computer/browser or a more widespread problem caused by bugs in their program. Has anyone had a similar experience?
I really appreciate you posting the issues you have been having with VidAngel MTurk HITs. This type of feedback is very valuable. We have been making many modifications and we would recommend you trying doing the HITs again. We hope you will realize that we have fixed many of the bugs. I am having the same problems. The quick keys don't work for me....even the space bar doesn't work unless I click the help thing first. And as far as quick keys go, they should certainly have rewind capabilities set up too. I am gettting frustrated enough to quit
I contacted Vidangel and gave them a detailed description of the problems, but I never received any reply; they just blocked me from working on any of their HITs, even the ones I was qualified for. I must say, I'm very disappointed with this requester.
I think their problem is that they've developed their software in a very closed and limited environment. I'm sure it works perfectly on the developer's computers. I have the quals, even some Google Play credits from them but the interface makes it less than desirable to spend any time on them. I was really excited about these and would consider trying to do them if the interface worked consistently.
I've been doing these HITs for a few months and currently have the Premium Reviewer Qualification. Most of the issues I've read throughout this thread sound like issues with your personal browser. You need hotkeys to be working in order to time mutes correctly. You cannot just tag a mute and hope it lands on the profanity. You need the up/down/left/right hotkey arrows to be working for you in order to do these correctly. I found enabling everything for their site on your browser (ie popups, images, media etc) fixes most problems. Any other issues I would bring up with the guys at Vidangel, they're nice guys and I enjoy doing work for them.
How do you even qualify? I clicked on the link to their video that gives you the info for the test. It says there are 6 videos, but there is only one and it does not cover the questions in the qualification test.
I'm not sure if they changed anything since when I qualified. What I had to do was get a 100 on the first qualification test then review a few YouTube HITs (these get posted periodically and you'll have to setup a PM or C4C in order to catch them). After the YouTube HITs are reviewed you'll probably get an email from them asking to tag a movie and give you the qualification. After the first movie is reviewed and you get an acceptable grade they'll let you tag as much as you can. If you post a little more info about what you're having troubles with I'll try to help or you can email them with any problems you're having. They respond very quickly (within a day) so don't hesitate to contact them.
Hey, I'm new to this site but have been working for Mturk since Feb. and I currently have over 39k approved hits. I have been trying to get qualified to work for them I did the test and score 100 first try (not that complicated LOL) in fact I think I did 2 diff test for them, VidTags for Kids, Teens and Adults & VidTagger scoring 100 on both.. I saw a hit right after saying something about YouTube but got caught up in something and wasn't able to get to it that minute. Went back to it later and all of them were gone I have been trying to get ahold of them but they don't have an open link to email them for those who haven't done a hit for them yet ... I would really like to do some work for them :hail: Also for the person who is having a problem with the hit being able to use short keys, I have noticed that some hits short keys work different in different Browsers. I typically work with IE but have noticed some I have to do in Chrome.
In order to become a Premium VidTagger you need to complete the following steps. 1. Go to MTurk and click the 'Qualifications' tab. 2. After you have done that, go to the search bar on the top, just below the tabs, and search for 'vidangel'. This will populate all VidAngel qualifications. 3. There are many different types of qualifications, but to accept YouTube HITs, you will need to take the test for 'VidTags for Kids, Teens and Adults' and also 'VidTagger'. 4. After you have finished training and taking those qualification tests, you may now accept YouTube videos. 5. Once you have completed three to five YouTube videos, email us at mturk@vidangel.com so we can guide you to the point where you can accept movie HITs. 6. In order to accept movie HITs, we have to promote you to Premium VidTagger. Many times we will have you review other people's YouTube work before tagging a full length movie. VidAngel is not as great as it is cracked up to be. Nothing but problems with the program. Problems with bonuses, etc. Yes, they seem like "nice guys" but I am leery to trust people that seem too "nice." It sounds good at first but you need to try it. I did and I was not impressed, nor did I really care for the workload vs. hourly rate. Each person has to decide what is best for themselves of course, and, some may have good experiences. I found them to be completely disorganized myself. That's my two cents.
I, too, find VidAngel software to be buggy. I just recently got the needed qualifications to do the YouTube HITs. But the interface was so buggy I threw it back. Their instructions say that Chrome is required for their HITs. I was using Chrome and had everything enabled (pop-ups, images, etc). I really wanted to learn how to do these, but I'm reluctant to try again, unless I can figure out how to get the software to work correctly.
VidAngel will continuously receive updates as does most services these days. Bugs are being worked out and most are gone. Be patient and in no time you can be tagging full length feature films. I've personally tagged over twenty movies for VidAngel and have experienced very few bugs that kept me from completing my Hit. Most of which can be fixed by simply reloading the timeline with a right-mouse button click anywhere on the timeline. VidAngel offers good pay and bonuses that make working for them worthwhile. I couldn't imagine any better way to earn extra cash to supplement my life.
I LOVE the video tagging hits. I didn't have any problem with the quick keys once I got the hang of it. I can't wait until they post more hits. Where else can you get paid that well to watch movies and shows? Everything (or every hit) is not for everyone, but that's the beauty of mturk!
From a premium video publisher - very upset with vidangel - hits take 15-20 hrs I would tell you to not waste your time. You won't get paid everything that's promised, read their reviews on turkopticon (avoid the ones labeled requester review because they are fake). Once you read what's really going on, you won't want to do it. Your first HITs will take every bit of 15-20 hours to do. Th higher you move up the ladder, the less the HIT is worth. It is my honest and true opinion that they have a big family, they let the kids in the family tag the movies, and they make up correct them. This way they keep the invested money in the family.
