It is a way for us all to get some sleep so we can be ready to work in the AM. I just woke up like I always do and now I can't do my couple of dollars worth the work.

I got a product from Moutheater's separate site yesterday so I guess I'll go see what's up there. The site will be up in a few hours. It's just maintenance and I've noticed it could use some attention. They all need attention once in a while or they do the big crash as in blank screen. So what she said...

See - now it appears to be up. At least for me. You check and see.

I don't know why y'all are making a fuss over this. I started turking for the day just now and didn't find anything unusual. It's just another normal day for me. It may have been down in the morning but that could be a regular periodic maintenance. Any site needs a maintenance at some point, let alone mTurk.

Agreed. I'm glad moutheater and ash and others commented similarly, too.

I know it is easy to get panicked, especially if MTurk is a main source of income for you. But take the example of US banks (and maybe other countries' banks too; I only bank in the US, so I am only saying what I know). Most of them do maintenance on their websites every business night. Sometimes the whole site is down, with this same kind of message, and sometimes it is up, yet some functions are temporarily disabled. They always have a warning message in advance.

I do not trust banks any less because of this. Isn't it better for them to take it down and make sure everything's OK, rather than have an unplanned outage due to lack of maintenance? After all, an unplanned outage could result in a much longer downtime.

The same should be true for Amazon and for Mechanical Turk. When they can do maintenance without interrupting user experience, I'm sure they do. When they have to, then good for them that they maintain it. That is a good sign.

I think if they were going to end the site entirely, they would just do that. They won't lie to you that it's down for maintenance only. ;)

P.S. Again, this is why I suggest people never depend solely on MTurk or any other single source. Do what you can for yourselves to have some source of backup income, so this sort of thing will not feel to you like the sky is falling. Happy Turking!

For real. This sounds like a bunch of new turkers stressing. lol Have you not been with us through a system maintenance? We just had one about a month or two ago, calm down and chill and quit stressing, the world is still spinning, and so is amazon.
