I consider myself environmentalist because I am against fracking and drilling and all policies that harm the environment. Beyond purchasing the energy efficient light bulbs (to save money mostly) I don't think that because I don't go out of my way to purchase stuff labelled "green" or "eco-friendly" that I'm not environmental. I'm just realistic enough to know that even if the majority of people adopted those behaviors it's still like an entire neighborhood trying to put out a burning building by having everyone piss on it at the same time because the fire trucks refuse to turn on their hoses and put out the fire (which is what the governments and corporations could do in a heartbeat but they won't so they pretend to let that fall on us).
I'm more of a follower of Carlinian thought. The only reason that the planet allows us to exist is so that we can produce plastic and styrofoam as it can't make these materials itself.
