I used to think that way but also realized if the market collapses so will the banks and money. The market is the only place that is relatively safe over time. You need to average at least 10% interest on your money over the years. Can't get that anywhere else. Hell, inflation is usually 3 to 5% so anything along those lines is just breaking even over time. I chose risky mutual funds for the first 15 years and then became more conservative after that. just my 2cents
