Hey mturk forum! This is Alex from AudioKite Research, a new requester that will be releasing an ongoing series of HITs for the purpose of market research for musicians and labels. The HITs are really simple and only require 40 seconds, just listen to a song and answer a quick survey, and optionally leave some comments.

Also, we're segmenting interested mTurk workers into seven genre groups so that we can better target songs to people who enjoy those genres. The qualification tests are extremely simple ("Do you like jazz?" Yes/No) and you can qualify for as many is as accurate to you

All of our HITs are here: https://www.mturk.com/mturk/searchbar?selectedSearchType=hitgroups&requesterId=A1ZEEGMU3YMZ6

Please let me know if you encounter any problems or have any feedback.

    Thanks!

    Hi Alex,

I've just done the hits cause they were very appealing to me - I won't pass an opportunity to express my opinion about music (especially a paid one). With the qualifications and listening to the songs and writing a sentence even when it was optional it took me about twenty minutes so the pay is not great. However I enjoyed them so I won't complain.
The songs took on average 10 seconds to load and I would've liked to see the question about the overall feeling towards the end rather than right off the bat.
    So there...

    Alex,

I just did the one hit that was available to me without taking any qualification tests. I enjoyed it! I agree with Delphy that it's a little underpaid, but not overly so. I didn't have a loading issue with that hit (time will tell with the others), so I can't comment on that.

I would suggest a few things: I would raise your qualification percentage up to 90% if you want to be generous, or 95% if you want a much better group. Anything below that is typically (not always) not worth the money spent on it. I'd also add a "accepted hits not less than 1000" or so, to further cut down on inane responses. After doing that, I'd suggest making these hits $0.25-$0.40.

At $0.10 they seemed a little underpaid; worth doing, but I wasn't really motivated to stay for the whole song. I'm not sure if that's something you're looking for (since you can't submit until 40 seconds), but my opinion at 40 seconds in was drastically different than at 3 minutes in. If you tighten up your quals and raise the pay up a little bit, you'd get people chomping at the bit for your hits.

That being said, that's just my opinion. I am very much a "convenience" turker; I don't do this for a living, so I can afford to be a little choosier with the hits I accept. Because of that, I tend to have higher expectations as far as pay/quality goes. So, take what I say with a grain of salt. Your hits are definitely worth doing at your rate, if not just because they're fun.

Also, I have to complement you on your hit programming. It's not too often you see new requesters put out a hit that's that complicated (the floating divs, character counter, all these are "complicated") that works properly on the first go!

I'm excited to be able to work for you and I hope to see you around in the future! Hop over into the greatest hits thread for the day and say hi to everyone! You'll get some great advice over there, not too many people check the rest of the site out.

    EDIT:

I just took a look at the qual tests (I wanted to type this out as soon as I finished the open one). I would honestly recommend removing them, because you're just going to get people who say "yes" to them all anyway, whether they like the genre or not, to allow them to do more of your hits.
