I think my generation of kids was the last one before the big technology boom. I loved getting 4 dollar action figures. Now kids want 500 IPads and IPods. Its crazy! I'm sooooo not ready for children.

Even being from one of the first generations that had technology (born in '84, had every nintendo system since then), I think my kids are going to be practically Amish! Heck no, you can't play with my $400 tablet!

My daughter to be will hopefully be on the technology side of things. I'm involved in networking and other computer related work, so hopefully I can teach her to build a computer when she's 5 or so. Sure it may be expensive on the front end, but it may lead to a great job down the line. :)

They take almost 3 minutes in chrome for me. And I have a fast ass computer. I don't know why but last night they just were wasting 20 seconds loading.

All my little girl wants for Christmas is a puppy/kitten (we all want it too, so not really buying it for her). Her grandparents have been buying her enough toys she doesn't know what to do with them. She doesn't know no iPod or iPad or any gaming systems. She only knows that Wii and DS are adults' toys that only mommy and daddy get to play them. So I'm safe here :D

Computer building is going out the window. Its becoming something that everyone knows. Its like cooking. Everyone will know how to do it just some better then others.

The instrument I can understand but I wouldnt pay for another ipod I mean seriously what is a new one going to do that the old one cant. Nothing annoys me more then when my child wants the latest and greatest JUST because it is the latest and greatest.
My daughter was up and down about getting a cellphone. HAD to have one. when she turned 15 I caved and got her a refurb driod incredible. in 5 months of owning she has used ZERO mins of talk time. she only texts witht he stupid thing. HAD to have it... when she could just email text from her laptop.

Yep, I grew up with my hands on everything in the computer... Started putting my own together around 7th grade, and loved every minute of it. Great problem solving skills come out of trying to solve great problems!

Good for you. My son and his best friend would cut lawns, etc over the summer and started getting free or inexpensive parts from Craiglist or from people they knew when they were in middle school. They put together a couple of computers and made a nice little amount of money. Now they are talking about when they graduate starting a company.

The only thing new about the ipods is they come in colors now. Of course we want Hot Pink. Cheaper to just spend $3 on a hot pink case LOL

Definitely. I used to sit my daughter in my lap and let her play on my computer when she was about 18 months old. LOTS of Elmo drawing stuff and things like that. She's 16 now, attending online high school and looking to go into computer graphics and design.

Are you the type of parent that doesn't let your child do anything? A kid without a cell phone is completely ridiculous. If you have the money to pay for one, why not use it. If the technology is there for you to stay in contact with your children while they're out...I don't see the big problem if they're texting or calling. Texting is actually more efficient if you look at it in a multi-tasking perception.
