I just say i freelance. I feel like I'm kind of lying to them, but it's easier to explain it that way then to explain mturk to a bunch of lawyers.
If you're dealing with lawyers you could say you do confidential research. Lawyers are inclined to respect confidentiality. You could say confidential marketing research if you think they might come up with crazy theories.

They don't understand the power of the internet, even if I try to explain it to them, they get too confused by how the system works. I just tell them the money I make is legal and let them know not to worry about it really.
If these lawyers were unrelated to me, that would be great advice. I'd rather walk through a pit full of snakes than attempt to explain things that exist outside of the realm of "normal" to my family. ...Walking through the snakes might also take less time.
