So far, I have had great experience with the requesters, but I am new and only starting out. I haven't been not paid. I hope that I don't accept hits from the mean ones.

I've had a decent experience with all of them, but some better than others. For example, I now avoid the ones who let it sit there for a month until it auto approves.

You can sort the hits by clicking on the dropdown box, and selecting "BY REWARD AMOUNT".

I find it depressing that people are willing to work for a few pennies an hour. Literally. There will always be plenty of requesters willing to exploit them. And it drives down wages for everyone.

Oh I dont know if they are mean but I am sure they could care less . Its the bottom line the $. And yes if more people would not do them they would have to raise the price. But there will always be [as someone said] people who will do a lot of these type hits. I have to admit I am one to try one or 2 now and again to see how fast they really can be done most of the time I just leave after that.
I know some people say they can make good money doing hits I think are way to little pay for what they are but then i may not be good at those or they have a way to speed up the PC or running scripts to make the hits go faster . Not sure but so far I do see with Mturk you work a lot and at times hard for your money and hope it is not and unfair requester or scammer.

A professional writer makes about .11 per word. Obviously they aren't going to pay that much. But I always crack up when I see a hit that pays .01 and they expect a worker to look at 4 pages of a web site and enter 20 pieces of data. Morrissey makes a valid point: If we stop doing those hits for insulting pay, they will either pay better or move on. Obviously they don't want to do the work themselves, so the odds that they will start paying better are good. And who cares if they go somewhere else instead? If we can't make any money there's no point. I sometimes go for days without doing many hits because the ones available either pay too little or are so tedious they make my skin crawl.

Hey, you can make a few bucks an hour with some of those penny hits if your computer is superfast and it takes a second to complete the hit. I recently made 4 bucks an hour on .04 hits. I did hundreds of them and was only rejected on a couple when my computer glitched and didn't record my answer before I sent it.
I noticed a .20 HIT by a requestor who wants a worker to describe losing his/her virginity--nothing under 1000 words. For .20 cents? Here's what you get for .20 cents: "I was 16, in love and it was no big deal." LOL

My question is, how long does the average person take to write 500 words about something they already know about?

I did a 500 word article once. What I ended up with was a conglomeration of mismatched sentences, they I got a pittance for. I can't remember how long it took, but I still have a copy that I'm going to print out and hang on the refrigerator :D

I guess it depends on your typing speed. If I know the subject well, I can finish it in 15 minutes.

15 minutes? That's awesome! Too bad I never know the subject matter. I wish someone would need articles about medical diseases. I know just about everything there is to know about those topics :)

I have seen couple of hits on medical subjects at mturk and have answered some. Believe me, writing on such topics is depressing. Keep on the lookout, you may get lucky. Or maybe I should give you a tip when such hits land at mturk. BTW my typing speed is OK, scored 96/100 in typing. Guess that could be the reason for my speed.;)

I'd like to see more hits... It seems like there's too many turkers for too few good(used lightly) hits. That way the price for hits would increase.

As for typing I was around 40+ words a minute in HS. But now I'm faster, never checked how fast though. But I slow down heavily for the garbage topics people want things written about. There's not enough good things to go around.

If it took me 15 minutes, I need at least $1.64 to get current minimum wage($6.55)(Or $1.81 coming in July), or more then that to get better results...

If you want the prices to increase, then people need to stop working for sweat shop wages. AND...we as workers also need to band together and write to these people who want 500 words for .40 cents and TELL them that what they are paying is unacceptable and insulting. They cannot retaliate against you for speaking your mind. Be tactful but firm and let them know how you feel. I do! Be part of the problem, or part of the solution--your choice.

Shego, this is useless. I believe some of us would stop working on low paying hits, but there are many more who will not mind working for half a dollar and they will submit a 200-500 word work for such a small amount.

Within the last week, I have found that some of the requesters for whom I regularly work, have dropped their rates. This thing seems to be catching on and I believe more requesters will follow suit. There are very few hits which pay decent reward or the base rate. I am side-stepping those low paying jobs, but they are disappearing, so obviously there are people who are eager to work on them.
