I'm so sad to hear this! I just got started with him and was on a roll. I was afraid of this happening one day though, with the way Google frequently changes their index.

Thanks for posting this, but I'm still really upset to lose a fast paying Requester like this.

Does anyone know similar writing jobs from ethical requesters like John?

There are 3 other major writing Hits. Crowdsource, Leger and Justin Gunther. Leger and Gunther are closed to new qualifications but I believe Crowdsource is still adding newbies.

Thank you, I have a few other Crowdsource qualifications and I just requested the Intermediate Writing one.

Since when is running a link farm ethical?

Now, he may have paid you well - but his core business runs against Google’s guidelines.

Is this not what he was doing?

Hmm that Google webmaster's link was pretty educational. I knew Google changed their index from time to time but had no idea building crosslinking sites like that was a violation of their webmaster guidelines. SEO is a huge mystery to me. I'm ranked #1 for a few terms on my blog, and yet I have exactly zero people linking to me.

By ethical I meant paying people above peanuts. I was able to get six to eight of these done an hour.

I know there are a lot of really big affiliate outfits that do what he was doing on a larger scale, because I see their ads from time to time. I wonder if they've been hurt the same way his business was.

Oscar Smith and Matt Doumar are pretty prompt in their payments. Smartsheet too.

This may or may not be permanent. There are other link farm sites that are changing up the way they operate in order to not get hit by Google. BMR *may* come back, but I'm not holding my breath

This is a bad thing! I was making 30 to 40 dollars a day working for John Gaddy. Hopefully I will be able to find some new hits that I can devote my time to.

That's a sad piece of info.
I hope there will be found a good substitute for it.

Oh no, this is terrible news! I am a very fast writer. I have a physics degree (cost me 70k to get!) and was unemployed until I found John Gaddy. This is the most awful news I've had in a long time. I've tried to get approval from the requesters mentioned earlier - Crowdsource, Leger and Justin Gunther, but have never had a reply to my requests. Does anyone have an email address or other point of contact? Perhaps if I wrote an email and sent writing samples I could get approved for their qualifications. I certainly can write.

Alternatively, if no-one can give me a point of contact (I believe you should have it if you've ever 'contacted' the requester, but you can only do that if you've gotten a Hit from them) - does anyone have any alternative ideas? This really leaves me in a lurch, and my fiancee (who has a master's degree in English) and her minimum wage job certainly won't support us. I really liked working for Gaddy.

53buttons - did you request any of the writing Qualifications from Crowdsource? I already had a few other of their Quals, but they approved me pretty fast when I requested the writing ones. Maybe you need to do a few of their other HITs first before they'll approve your qualifications?

Personally I've decided to give transcription a try as a way to recoup some of the earnings I'll be missing from Gaddy. I figure I'm going to take a big HIT in my daily earnings until I get good at it, but at least it's giving myself a new skill while I work my way through the low paying transcription HITs.
