Okay, so I've been doing SpeechInk for months now. I had an overall rating of 94, which let me do jobs on lengthy recordings. I'm not very good at verbatim HITS however, 2 days ago, due to lack of work I did a verbatim HIT.

My rating then dropped from 94 to 90. When I went to the Mturk available HITS, I did not see any of the lengthy recordings, only a few verbatim ones. I then thought of doing another one, just to improve the score. Did another one and scored 85, which brought my rating down from 90 to 89.

Now, I can't even do one HIT from SpeechInk. I'm really not sure what I need to do to get my regular work back. Tried taking the rating qualification again, but the website says, I've already scored 96, which is above the threshold of 91. I'm stuck! Don't know where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Contact SpeechInk. If it's a ratings issue, they are the only ones who are going to be able to help. They can probably reset the qualification and allow you to retake the rating qualification test. It's not hard to reset a qualification on the requester's side at all. Just explain what happened and they should be able to help you out.

Or...perhaps it's something you should contact the requester about? If the requester won't allow you to do any more work because of your rating, how is anyone here supposed to be able to help with that? That seems like it's fairly self-evident.

Or.. perhaps SpeechInk never replies. Oh well, I won't miss getting docked for not somehow transcribing in 2 people talking in Mandarin Chinese or staticky bullshit.

They reply. I believe it just takes a bit.

As for the rating, you should try to stay as close to 100 as possible. That means that you'll have to take longer to make sure everything is accurate. Verbatim means that exactly. You'll need to transcribe every utterance and sound exactly as it was said. In the style guide it even differentiates between 'uh' and 'um'. So accuracy is important to keep your rating up.

Improve Speech Ink rating from 89

This may have already been answered... but this is what I did.

I had a good rating for a while, but I just dropped down to 89 and started to panic.

I went to the site itself (I'll link it below) and retook the basic qualification test. It boosted me back up to a 91. The test is short, you transcribe a 30 second audio clip.

The site is a little different now, but you can still login with your same Speechink info. I did all this tonight so I know my answer is current, I hope this helps. :)

    MellyAnn,

THanks so much for the update. Same happened to me ages ago, more than a year, and I just left Speechink. I'll go back and check. All I do on editing is Crowsurf but it's good to work another site. Do you have the edit qual or just transcription? Thank for update Melly

hm. I did 1 of the tests and came in as a 70 for the verbatim one... I wonder if I missed something? Do you know if they want actual text vs. numbers when someone says, "7:00" do you transcribe as seven o'clock?

I wasn't sure, so I typed out all of the numbers. but they don't seem to tell me what I am doing wrong...
