Hi everyone, So far, no word from accounting. These things take time, and it's been a very busy week here in ocmp34land. I'm so sorry for the hold up; I had no idea it would be this long, between having a hectic week and waiting on accounting to trudge through their equally large batch of tasks (see what I did there? huh? huh??). With any luck I'll be able to put up some batches this weekend, otherwise it'll have to wait until Monday. Again, I sincerely apologize for the delay. Everything always takes longer than planned. Well, it's nice to see updates, at least. Not gonna lie, I've been pretty bummed that we haven't seen any work from you lately, but I understand, things happen. I know I'm gonna stick around, and to be honest, the less people on them batches, the more for those of us who are patiently waiting (and trust me, my wallet is totally ready for a few nice fat batches from the OCMP front, considering the last couple weeks have been total crap for me on MTurk). Thanks again for the updates; hope to see some good news soon!
^ This. I understand things happen. I just really appreciate the updates so I know how to schedule my time. I'd love to devote a ton of time to a batch of these to make up for my slow week, so I want to be sure I schedule around when they have a chance of dropping. Once accounting gets the kinks worked out, will the batches post with regularity after that? Or will they trickle in and run into problems like this each time?
Well, this time there were two major problems: one, I had to sink a lot of time into researching the sudden drop in retrieval rates (again, no foul play, but it still required a memo), and two, I had to wait an inordinate amount of time for accounting because of how busy the office is right now. I want to be able to say that the batches are going to be more regular in the future, and I'm going to do what I can to make sure that happens. Ultimately, though, I'm part of a greater team. Time moves very quickly for us and priorities are always shifting. It is frustrating for me for there to be these gaps because I know I'm losing great workers one by one, but the reality is that I can't promise a smooth running machine. And for that, I'm really sorry.
Any chance we'll get a batch over the weekend or is it only going to be weekday batches. Weekends work best for me but I can see if you want to be there as the batch is being done. Also any ETA on when the next batch might post?
I'm not sure yet. I can run a batch over the weekend as I'll be home anyway, so keeping an eye on it shouldn't be too much trouble. But I don't know if accounting will be finished tomorrow. I would be surprised if I weren't able to post a batch by Tuesday, but I can't make promises.
OCMP34, Are these the only types of batches we will see from you or do you have some other things up your sleeves for the future?
We definitely have some other stuff up our sleeves, but I have no ETA on those - they require a huge collection process (they would be transcription tasks). I would be surprised if I started those before the summer hits. To be honest, you guys work through these batches much, much, much faster than we ever anticipated, which in part explains the long breaks between batches.
That is one advantage of having a large work force paid by completion rather then by the hour as long as you guarantee accuracy is up. Pay someone by the hour unless you offer bonuses he really has very little reason to work faster. Pay someone by completions and he will find ways to squeeze every second out and make things as efficient as possible.
When you are ready for those to get done, remember us! Thanks for keeping us up to date. Having a requester that does that is refreshing. We will be here when the next lot of work is ready!
Hooray! I don't know how everyone posts gifs, so...pretend I put a celebratory one here. I made no moneys this week so next week, I plan on making epic amounts next week. (How big of a batch compared to last time? Do you know?)
Batch live! This one has 11 thousand records (it populated 3000 hits for the first task), but I'm posting another one once this one passes a sanity check. Let's do this! ETA: If you were extremely fast on the trigger, you may have noticed I pulled the batch (it's now live again). I'd changed the size of the first task from 3 to 4 when I was doing some math last week, and forgot to change it. The first batch should now populate three nonprofits, as it had before, NOT four.
No kidding, I'm seeing tons of progress. I uploaded a second batch with 6500 initial tasks, and a third batch from previous fubar'd batches... they all already have homepages, so it skips straight to the retrieval task.
