Heya. I already put up a short introduction in yesterday's Great HITs thread, but I saw this board and wanted to make a proper introduction. So, yeah, my name is Jello and I'm a full time college student, but I've got the semester off because I ran into some car trouble and I wasn't working at the time, so I decided it would be best to take the time off and transfer in the fall.

So I've got no regular income and nothing to do for school. Places I've put applications in to haven't been calling me, and I found mturk, which seems like an okay way to at least get a little spending money in my pocket. I've been doing mostly transcription tasks for CrowdSurf and I've earned a little more than enough money that I could buy myself a case of beer and drink while I continue earning money for the next case of beer. Or, you know, something more productive, maybe.

But anyway, looking at the Great Hits thread has helped me to find some tasks that pay off better than what I'm making. And I have the usual n00b questions if anyone wants to point me in the right direction. But the main thing I wanted to know about is first of all, what happens if I miss my 3 hits per day quota during the probation period, because I noticed HITs were very hard to find on Sunday. And also, what are usually the best requesters to look into on say a daily basis. I don't mind doing tasks for CrowdSurf, but the pay sucks. I'd prefer to do something similar, easy tasks, that don't require me to jump through a lot of hoops.

    Hi all,
I'm brand new to MTurking and stumbled on it by accident.
Over the last several years I have been and indexer and Arbitrator for the Church of Latter Day Saints volunteering for their Genealogy base. So far I have indexed and arbitrated over 1010,000 records. Some indexing is difficult and I thought if I was paid some I could take a pretty great vacation.
Any thoughts from experienced mturkers would help,
    Doc K

...and since I already replied in this thread I can also introduce myself to the forum here...

So, hello, I'm Skippy and I'm new here. New to turking, too. Let's see how far I'll come and if I'm any good for this. Good to be in this forum, I guess :)

Welcome! I would heavily recommend that you hang out in the Great HITs section of the forum, it gets a ton more traffic. Many of the people here are extremely helpful and can help you increase your turking prowess tenfold.
