hello, my name is Sandy and I am new to Mturking. I signing up in Dec or Nov but I have been nervous about starting. I have besn readng and trying one or two hits. Any advice or a mentor for the ride would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi Sandy. Brrrrrr!!! Cold indeed! I've seen on TV So, you're still nervous? Don't be. Take it easy... As you already seen, most HITs have instructions. Take your time, read it, understand it and do the HIT. If you consider that you did not do the HIT quite OK, you may return it. It won't affect your ratio. Maybe some, but not many rejections won't be that bad, as to give you an image of the reasons that made your work not to be accepted. If you consider that it was not your fault, you may contact the requester of the HIT, and politely ask for the reason. If you are right, often the rejection is reversed by the requesters. A requester that rejected a HIT may be contacted from your dashboard, by clicking on the name of the requester correspondent to the rejected HIT. It will open a form where you will write your text, then click submit and is send to the requester. Is very good to try to obtain as many qualifications as you can. This may be done by clicking "Request qualification" . Some are auto granted, other require a qualification test. Even if you fail it, it's OK, you may take it again other time, when is published again. For a while, try to accept all types of HITs, til you'll see what you like most to do, what works for you. A HIT may be search by writing in the search box, the name of the requester, or the name of the HIT, or one of the keywords that are shown if you click the name of the HIT. To ease the search and the work in general, you may download some scripts that you find on section Scripts of this forum : http://mturkscripts.com/ You may accept more HITs at a time. To view them all, you have to click " HITs Assigned To You". It will display all the HITs you accepted and wait to be done. There are HITs that are not rejected, but in general require a qualification. You have to keep doing a quality work, or the value of your qualification will decrease, and eventualy will you not be permitted anymore to do that HIT. That's why I mentioned about finding the type of HITs you like to do, so I guess you'll do your best on these HITs, and will have great results overall. Watch the TO but don't let yourself influenced by a bad TO. If you like the HIT and work it fine, you won't be rejected. Give a shot. Anyhow, for the first days (10 if I'm not wrong) the number of HITs you can accept daily, will be limitted to a certain number. If you'll try to accept more HITs, you'll get a warning message, that you'll tell you " you're not allowed to accept anymore HITs, try tomorrow" - or something like; so, don't panic! Another hint is to observ the daily thread "Can't Find GREAT HITs?". People post here different HITs, and hints, and jokes and pictures, to help us work fine. Of course, there are still many little things related to how to optimize your work, you'll observ yourself , in time. Treat work with respect, and it will be OK, you'll see. Wow Thank you! I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post. I will re and re reD it for further clarity. I did receive some other info about scripts and downloaded a few. I did contac one requester based another post I had read and they agreed to review it once the hit was completed. So if I understand you correctly I should focus on hits I like. I wanted to focus on transcription. I like listening and typing . However I have to do some research on getting them to work. I tried two different hits but they did not work. I see that the thread for good hits and I will begin trollin it. Smile. My attempt at hip internet lingo. Thanks so much for the response it means so much, cause I need to make that money. Yuk yuk. Hi. I am glad that you find quite quickly the type of HITs you like to work on. That's really great. There are also transcriptions, and typing HITs. Be carreful to read closely the instructions , as these are different, according to the requesters of the HITs.
