Yale disaster game got me $1 plus a $3.70 bonus. Try to snag it if it's up again. Took about 7 mins including the tutorial and the game.

Says he who is given potatoes! You should make potatoes and chorizo tacos. Have sour cream, salsa, and lettuce at arms reach.

    Good Morning Everyone,

Last week, I didn't wake up early once. I missed a bunch of batches and money. This week, I planned in my head to wake up early. Now I'm sitting here thinking, "Should I go back to sleep? I don't see the money."

Anybody else get this from that $7 military veterans survey? Apparently my answers were too similar??

    Dear Worker,

I am writing to ask you for a personal favor. You participated in my dissertation survey, "Perceptions of Military Veterans," and were paid in good faith. Upon closer review of your answers, I have learned that the ratings you provided about the hypothetical veterans are unfortunately not usable. Is there any way you can find a few minutes to please retake it (link below)? I hate to ask, as I can only imagine how busy you are, but my degree is on the line.

To help you understand where I'm coming from, unlike many of the Requesters on MTurk, I live paycheck-to-paycheck and am not getting paid to do this research. I was lucky enough to win a grant to pay research participants, like you. And because I've had any number of odd jobs over my life, I chose to pay you generously. The rules of the grant are such that I cannot even buy a cup of coffee with that money. So, data that are unusable are ultimately money that I have lost and jeopardize my ability to finish my degree. Based on the answers I received in Round 1, I will not be able to complete the study, unless people help me out with some retakes.

The motivation behind this project is to offer veterans a better sense of how people perceive them, in case it helps them navigate their various pursuits. If you are wiling to help me out - and I sincerely hope you are - here is the link for the retake round.

    httpsXXXXX

What types of ratings would be helpful?

    1. Ratings that vary across veteran profiles. A lot of people put all (or mostly) 100s or 0s for the ratings, which unfortunately doesn't work for the statistical analyses I have to do to finish my study. The scale ranges from -100 to 100 to give you space to express the more complex opinions that you, like any other person, have.

    2. Ratings that reflect honest opinions about the four characteristics you saw changing in each profile. The survey doesn't ask you to cast the deciding vote about what happens to the hypothetical veterans - only to give your first impression with the limited information you have. I intentionally chose to not collect legal names, in the hope that it would help you feel more comfortable about sharing your first impressions of these hypothetical people.

Please feel free to email me with any questions. And, thank you again for at least considering a retake.

    Very respectfully,
    Alexis

That's weird. How does telling you what YOUR opinion should be not compromise the data?

    I didn't get that email.

Though, telling people how to answer seems a bit ridiculous to me. Hey guys do me a favor and change your opinions thanks.

That's what I was thinking. I remember taking the survey and thinking to myself, my opinion isn't changing based on the scenarios, but I honestly thought about it and her scenarios didn't warrant a different opinion for me. So I don't know what to do. Should I go back and make up some different opinions just so she can turn in her paper? Seems unethical in a weird way.

If anything, I think I would explain that in MY OPINION, which is what she is studying, that my answers did not change based on the scenarios she presented and that I feel that it would kind of make the "study" a sham if I changed my answers to make her paper better. I would try to word it so I didn't get a block but it doesn't seem like they have much respect for their own study.

You already got paid anyway, just write back explaining why your opinions didn't vary and be done with it. If he keeps bugging you then he's a crappy researcher anyway.
