I worked for a few years as a technician for a small IT company but didn't learn much aside from how to google a majority of the solutions to client problems. Also got a degree in information systems and business administration which haven't helped much. I haven't done any IT related work for almost 4 years now besides some home projects and I feel completely out of the loop. I recently went on an interview for an entry level position where I would be in charge of a computer loaner program for a bank and thought that I met all of the basic requirements but when I got called in for a second interview the guy was like, "so you basically haven't done any IT related work for years now right? We're looking for a candidate who's knowledgeable in Powershell, active directory, ect.." I mean I was willing to learn and have a basic understanding of those fields but it was crazy how many technical skills they were requiring for an entry level position where you basically just had to re-image laptops and ship them out. I just feel like I have to start from the bottom again just to get my foot in the door. Sorry for the rant and block of text, just super upset at the moment.
I just picked up Mike Myer's exam guide and have been watching Professor Messer videos on youtube and it looks like they've phased out older editions of the exam so there are some concepts that I'm still shaky on. My goal is to take the exam by the end of summer so we'll see how it goes.

I hear you. I got my Associate in networking, and they also had a cisco approved cert program so I got that also. After that I had no luck finding a job, no matter what I was always missing something, 3 years of experience or they wanted bachelors instead. It is getting close to four years now, have not got a interview for a long time. The employment gap in my field makes it harder and harder. I decided to instead just do my own thing learning more programming languages, unity3d, blender, etc. I figure now I will just have to make my own niche, turk keeps me afloat while I create my masterpiece.
Yeah it sucks that the market is so saturated and employers have such high expectations. It's cool that you're taking the time to further your learning. Are you looking to get into development/animation?
