I know a lot of you guys responded so:
I have Xanax, and Klonopin right now.
I've taken both, and Xanax makes me sleepy, and doesn't really do much for me, and Klonopin is something I take on the regular for my RLS. My anxiety is more constant, ocd and not panic attacks. /:
So I don't really benefit from the above medications. I might give Prozac a go. I have a lot of stress, and I worry about everything.

My husband is on a low dose right now (off and on over the years as well) because his anxiety can bring his mind from 0 to 100 at times, running through events that happened during the day and the 20 different ways the scenario could have played out, should he have said what he did, was their reaction okay, etc.

When work was stressful and he was pulling 60 hour weeks, it was really bad and why he sought doctor's advice. He found a new job two years ago and exercises more regularly since it's a 40 hour week usually. He still needs the low dose pills but his anxiety isn't half as bad as it used to be.

Anxiety doesn't care if you don't have bills or stress. It could be as simple as sensory overload from situations like being in the store while it's crowded, etc.

I can't remember what brand he was on years ago, but the side effects would make him dizzy and nauseous if he didn't take it at the same time every day. He had to wean off those when we decided he should give them up, it was almost like an addiction reaction, and he hadn't even been on them long. He took a break for a year or two before getting citalopram.

That's how I am. I tend to automatically try to see how a situation could happen in the future and then my mind goes haywire. I also have ADHD, so things can get fucky.

Yeah, in my experience Ativan, Valium (not sure about Xanax) are better for panic attacks, not longer term anxiety. Klonopin helped me for overall anxiety without making me too sleepy, but I was using it in combination with either lexapro or zoloft (depending on the year), which are both anti-depressants with an anti-anxiety component. Don't get too discouraged though, I'm finally anti-anxiety med free, so I'm down to just ADHD meds and a small dose of anti-depressants, so you won't necessarily need to take them forever.

Are you being prescribed the meds? Your doctor should be working with you to find the right thing

If you get on prozac just be very upfront with your doctor about side affects to adjust dosage or try any of the other numerous drugs.

I was on anti-depressants and took ativan for anxiety-attacks for several years. Therapy really does help.

I think my ADHD does the same. It's that whole I can't shut down my brain thing so I end up worrying about everything.

I plan to take my ADHD meds, and anxiety meds through college, I just accept that. Also, I'm on Concerta for ADHD, what about you? I also wonder if the anti depressant could truly help. I was on one before but it made me so confident and happy at the time my girlfriend didn't like it, and I stopped taking it (stupid, I know. )

Well, in fairness, nineteen is streesful enough Withought adding OCD in the mix

Thats about the time i started long distance runnig, learned to breath from my stomach and not my chest so much and made diet changes. But for some, thats not enough.

Confident and happy usually means it is doing its job! Consider mentioning it to your doctor

^...exercise. The cheapest anti-depressant out there. Might be an oversimplification but I cant stress enough how much running helped me.

I was having panic attacks a couple years ago and took xanax for them probably a half dozen times or so

worked so well every time,I could be having a severe panic attack, take one of them, and a half hour later i'd be sound asleep

    every time
