Pay it off in full so you don't pay interest. Unless you plan on applying for more credit right now don't obsess over your credit score. Most creditors are only concerned when you over utilize credit because that suggests you are dependent on it and aren't financially stable, I doubt that they are too concerned if you under utilize it.

Hold a slight balance if you must, but most people who are able to pay off a CC are best off doing so (after keeping a proper amount of capital reserves for emergencies, typical spending, funding 401k up to the match etc.). Pay it in full! BUT, make sure to use every credit card you have once a month if you don't keep a balance. Paid $0, used $0 in credit last month is nothing to brag about, and doesn't really build credit history. As for maximizing your chances at a student loan without a cosigner, you're solid if you're 24+. If you make at least $10k a year, probably solid. I'd strongly recommend talking to an accountant for advice on how much to fudge your income numbers. Some say include financial aid as income, some don't. Taking your highest grossing month in that year and multiplying by 12 is an honest mistake.
