I'm doing well, froggo. Just got back from the store and I have some lovely sausages. How about you?

Earlier today I did I pending check and saw Click Travel (of course). Remember the days when they would post tons of those .04 ones in the wee hours? Fun times.

    I have plenty of competition.

I can choose between AT&T, who provides me with "up to" 6 Mbps for a mere $45 (plus fees) per month. They offer faster connections, but I get the same speed regardless, so I may as well pay for the cheapest. They claim the problem is the wiring in the house.

Or I can pick the dinky local cable company, who amazingly has a worse reputation than AT&T. They'll do *10* Mbps for $61/month (plus non-optional modem rental and fees). In all fairness they offer a "max" plan for only $80/month (20 Mbps). There are theoretical plans going up to 100 Mbps @ $165/month.

This town makes me miss Time Warner Cable.

Of course for the stats the gov't keeps on broadband, all that matters is that speed > X is available. It says nothing about reasonably priced.

Man you guys have it terrible. I have TWC $225 a month for all cable channels except HBO, SHO, Etc, home phone with unlimited calling US and plenty of features, 300Mbps Down 20 up and priority service(meaning I can get an appointment within 2 days if anything goes wrong) Also free wifi modem, and 2 top of the line DVRs and if new equipment comes out I just take the old stuff down to the office to trade it in or call and they setup an appointment to change it out. And no limits on traffic which is good because I am an easy terrabyte or more a month. I dont know how much longer it will last but for now its great.

That's awful. I pay just $60 for internet and landline phone, but there's competition here, Verizon vs. Optimum. We play a game with them, bargaining them down by threatening to move to the other provider. Verizon gave me a huge discount to move from copper wire and DSL to FIOS.

I don't use the TV service, rigged up my own antenna to get OTA (Over The Air.) I believe TV should be free.

I got on at 11:00. I was at my computer club tonight, and I won a new Win7 computer in the monthly raffle. We have a group who builds computers to give to schools and charities, but one is also raffled off at the club each month to raise money.

    How are you, ToT?

I had planned in Nov. to go on a news diet. I have managed to skip certain parts of the NY Times, but I didn't realize how many programs I listen to that are not news shows but news commentary. Various NPR programs, Tavis Smiley, Charlie Rose, Frontline, on and on.

I'm turning them off and listening to music more, but I don't think I can do it for 4 years. Friends are already telling me I have my head in the sand. I tell them I'm preserving my mental health
