Interesting... I wonder if that happens in cases where the pack leader is a human. For example my wife is clearly the pack leader for our three dogs and if she got pregnant (we'd have to have a LONG talk since I had a vasectomy 14 years ago) would they develop it?

No and I don't think it will happen until they run out. I emailed when they first went up and they said there is no limit you can keep doing them as long as they are up. What I don't understand is how they are still up.
My wife is due with our first child any day now, but she's definitely not the pack leader. Our female corgi is the one who thinks she's in charge, but she's been protective ever since the wife has been on bed rest. Cross-species false pregnancy would make for an interesting paper though.
