So I'm under 18 and would like to do some stuff on the MTurk. I've made about $2.50, but it won't let me do anymore without an SSN, and entering my real SSN would obviously be an automatic death sentence to my account. I've heard that you can make some money on a fake SSN (yes, I realize I won't be able to get the money off Amazon) before they shut you down, but I'm wondering, has Amazon ever actually taken anyone to court for using a fake SSN, or will they just shut me down and be done with it?

Amazon can't tie your age to your SSN.

But registering if you are under 18 is against the TOS.

If you put in a fake SSN, amazon won't be taking you to court - I think the IRS would be taking you to court. When amazon provides the IRS the info about social security earnings + SSN and they realize the SSN is fake then they will see who/what/where it is really going and take you to court for evading taxes.

The only way Amazon would take you to court is if using a fake SSN was a civil offense. It is, in fact, a criminal offense and it would be the US Government who could press charges.

Using fake SS numbers is also criminal fraud, whether you ever earn a dime or not.

What happens is eventually that fake SSN gets issued and used. Parents then find out that their child has tax liabilities / debts / etc. that could not possibly belong to them.

Yep, and IRS looks at the SSN and sees that taxes have not been paid from that SSN... then track down the perpetrator.

    EG: You put in 123-456-6789

Amazon: IRS, 123-456-6789 earned $100,000 from us!
    IRS: Thank you.
    IRS: [does digging]
IRS: Hmmmmm 123-456-6789 did not pay any taxes last year.....
IRS: Amazon, can you give us more info about this supposed "123-456-6789 guy?
Amazon: Sure, his IP address is....

And, FWIW, the SSA offers online number validation via the Social Security Number Verification Service. Once you actually earn money on AMT, Amazon can use this service to verify that your number is legit.

    http://www.ssa.gov/employer/ssnv.htm

In the end, fake numbers will not pass muster.

But as to your SSN being tied to your age... the issue date of the number itself will not show your age, this is true. Nowadays infants get numbers almost at birth. Back in the day, you were several years old before you got your SSN.

But the account data itself will have your age tied to it - elsewise, how would the SSA ever know when you are eligible for benefits?

Using a fake social security number is not something that should be promoted nor encouraged on the forum. If you make up a social security number, what if the number belongs to someone else? Then they will be in debt for taxes, for money that they didn't even make. The government will bite you in the a@@. Then Karma will hit you next. ;) If your not 18, wait out the few months or whatever it is till you turn 18.

To think on these lines by itself proves guilt on your part... Why attempt it then !!!!

You obviously have no morals. Follow the rules please. Wait until you are 18. Start your life clean and honestly. You have a whole life ahead of you.
