ewd, space bar is not supposed to be capitalized. Recheck the guidelines, that is also something you could get marked down for.

Only commands, titles of documents, etc. Such as Go to File > Open, hit the space bar, and then click OK, okay?

OK if it is a command to click OK, okay if he is speaking okay.

Never mind, I'm just not sure about what I was going to say. Although it might help if the Guideline columns added up on any consistent basis.

lol. I don't want to confuse anyone, but I thought OK is always typed as OK and not okay. That's what the style guide shows. I always type OK, unless it the speaker say 'Kay? Typing okay is incorrect.

Okay or OK OK (always) Click OK.
    OK, now let's get started.

No, I'm pretty sure that for these hits, it's always okay.

Here is some "clarification" on the subject:

Correct format - Incorrect format - Example

Okay OK If Okay is spoken, do not abbreviate as 'Kay.
'Kay K If 'Kay is spoken, do not change to Okay.

    http://www.crowdsurfwork.com/static/guidelines/guidelines.html#section_12

Only use OK if it is for computer commands. A good example of why people need to review the guidelines. Trust me, you are being marked down for using OK when it shouldn't' be used. The part you copied was from the bottom of the page, showing use for computer commands. Look towards the top in the spelling section.

It say OK (always) And then shows an example. OK, now let's get started. This was added to there style guide after they started, with the many additions they added. So, I'm sticking with this. And regarding 'Kay, if the speaker does not say OK, and drop's the O, which a lot of speakers do, you type it as it spoken. So, I think I'm correct on this on both points. I'm going to email them and ask them to weigh in on this.

Dude, would you just open the guideline and look?

I made this thread because I do higher level work for them, grading basic transcriptions, and grading the graders of the transcriptions, and I know that there is a LOT of people doing things VERY wrongly. But, I realize now that if people think they are doing something correctly, it's useless to try to help them out, because there will always be somebody that knows it all and will tell them the wrong right way to do things. Stating your opinion is one thing, but don't come in here telling people the wrong way to do things.

This is the last post I'm making, because frankly I just don't care at this point. If you think you are doing it right, great. You will all see your reflected true scores eventually, and a lot of you are not going to be happy with them.

The real question is, how many other things do you "think" you're doing correctly.

There's nothing to be upset about. I emailed Ryan and asked him to weigh in. I would like to know if I'm wrong.

Lol, I guess I can't help but continue to post, to say, are you blind? I even posted a screenshot directly from the guideline for you to see!

Man, I love people here. Can't wait until the people that think their way is better than the guideline way see their true scores. Don't know why I bother.

I, for one, absolutely appreciate turkimaniac starting this thread. I've been doing these transcription hits for quite some time (my level is 401, does that tell you anything) and thought I had a pretty good handle on things. Because of this thread, I went back and reviewed the entire style guide, and I discovered there were several errors I was consistently making. For example, I always put a comma before and after um, ah, and uh, and the guide says to only put one after them. Thank you, turkimaniac, for this insight into how Crowdsurf works and for the reminder.

FWIW, I'm with you on people who insist they are right even when the printed word contradicts them. Sometimes I just want to reach through the screen and slap people.

Crowdsurf sent me an email stating several people score might have gone down over the weekend. Mine went up 6 points after shooting for all them bonus hits.:D

Also suggest you do what I did; I printed out their guidelines and have them taped right above my desk. I re-organized the notes in a way where I could use them for quick-reference.

    You are wrong my friend.

Okay is correct to use in most situations. Ex. I am doing okay today.
OK is correct in this situation. Ex. Please select the highlighted area, then press OK.

I'm looking at section 14 of Terminology under keyboard shortcuts it says OK (always), and then it shows 2 separate examples. One says Click OK.

The other example says, OK, now let's get started. They are showing 2 examples of how to use OK. So, that's the way I, since they added it, I've been typing it. I'm waiting for a response from them. As soon as I hear from them I'll post it here.

Also... I only use OK on the amazon interface, I don't use it on the Amara Portal.

ssamcd, how many times does it have to be explained to you.

Open up the guideline, the same guideline that you are reading that in. You are 100% correct. It says that under the computer section. Go to the top in the general spelling section. OR, even easier, just look at the screenshots that I tried to show you that you refuse to look at. It's right there, plain as day. I'm beginning to think you are just screwing with everybody, because nobody could be this dumb. Also, if you really emailed Ryan or Matt earlier, you would have had a response by now. There has never been a time where it takes longer than 45 minutes to get a response and I have exchanged two emails since you said that.

If you aren't screwing with people, I feel sorry for you. It makes me wonder how many other things you are sure about that I constantly run into that are blatantly wrong. The sooner you decide to open up to the possibility that you are incorrect, the sooner you can start correcting things, and the better chance you have of your true score, not the one that you see, being a decent score. I am just astonished that you are saying you are reading the guideline, and after I even sent you a screenshot, that you are still arguing that point. I mean seriously, you probably shouldn't even be doing the transcriptions at all. It's ridiculous the amount of videos that are 75% bad or worse.

To make it even easier on you, open up the guideline and hit control F...type in "okay" and it will be the first thing you see. At the very least, if you want to continue believing yourself over fact, and continue putting your ability to do them at risk, at least have the decency to not try and argue it here, in a thread where the point was to help people do better. Because you don't need to be confusing people and get other people doing it wrongly as well.

I'm thinking of getting a foot pedal. Do any of you use one?

I've started doing an Amara hit I got an invitation for. Some of these seem impossible to do with the instructions given to me and the ability for an average American computer to do. I've emailed them for clarification. How the heck to type an eighth note is just the most blaring problem. Do they really want this to be errorless, or just errorless within reason bearing in mind the limited abilities of a desktop? I'm editing someone else's transcription. Part of what they did seems to have followed the regular Crowdsurf guidelines, but violated the guidelines for this job. I don't know if they missed something, or I am. I fear that I may have accepted a well paying job that ruined my night. I don't know what the penalty will be if I tell them I can't do it after I already said I could, but if I either haven't figured it out for myself or gotten a response from them within an hour, I will do just that. I know I'm probably on the verge of violating forum rules, so this is all I will say on it.
