Just a heads up to you. If you do a lot of Crowdsurf, I highly suggest you all go through and read the guidelines. If you already have, I suggest you do it again. Even if you think you are doing them accurately, there is currently a high percentage chance that you are not following their guidelines correctly.

I am pretty sure they are getting ready to shake things up quite a bit, and I have seen a lot of the work that has been coming in (not from the few random reviews that pop up), and about 75% of each video is just not up to an expected standard. I cannot go into exactly what I know, or any specifics, but if you plan to continue to do a lot of Crowdsurf work, you should really read the ENTIRE style guide.

Trust me, I can tell there are a lot of people that think they are doing it perfectly to a T. But I am not exaggerating one bit when I say that at least 75% of the work is pretty poor.

I know most people here don't care for me too much because of my outlook on certain things, but this is just a friendly warning. Just because all of your HITs are getting paid, and you are getting bonuses, does not mean you're work is of the quality that is expected/wanted. Trust me, especially with them having work up right now, if you plan to do more, I highly suggest everyone make sure you are doing everything correctly. It will make things better for them, and better for them means better for you.

Thanks for the tip. I just noticed after reading your post the message regarding the scoring message on there interface. I am sure they are going to clean house with workers who are rushing through and not following the style. I have 3 qual's with Crowdsurf and I notice on the Full text reviews sometimes people will skip the stutter words, or the and, or the if's. I find that harder for me when I'm doing the Full text reviews because of the time involved putting all the stutters into the transcript. By the time a transcript get's to Full text reviews, it has already gone through the amazon review interface, and there should be no mistakes word for word. I can see grammar, or re-structuring the sentences, but that transcript should be word for word when it reaches the Crowd Virtualizer platform.

So, with that said, If Crowdsurf get's rids of the scammers who are rushing through to see how many hit's they can make in an hour to hit the $6.00 per hour mark, they deserve to loose their qual.

Thanks for the heads up. I enjoy doing these hits, so I will make a point of reviewing the style guide. I'd hate to lose this qual!

I do redwood hits too, and I sometimes forget what the rules are for each, since they are quite different.

They do tweak the guidelines now and then too.

As many times as I often have to go through them to make sure I get them as perfect as possible, I have only made the bonus they sometimes put up once. Even when I do a lot of them. I'd like to get the reviewer status, but I still haven't. I don't know how many you have to do as well as possible to get it. I always read their little daily messages and try to make note of any of their changes of style. My score is in the mid 200s now.

Check your score again, I think they have lowered everyone's. Mine was near 400 and my score dropped last night to 90. I just checked now it's 94. 90 is the score required for doing transcription. I think there will be changes and a lot of new tasks coming out. Are you qualified to do reviews on the amazon platform or just transcription?

Just transcription. I'd like to do reviews. How do I check my score? All I know of is when I get the emails saying it's gone up or down. I haven't gotten any emails from them today. I've done two hits for them today. Both approved within minutes.

There is one hit up for 25 seconds of audio, click on that and look under your value. Your score should be their.

I found the hit, but I don't see anything about value or score other than it has to be at least 90 to do the hit. Is it possible that they are doing this gradually and it just hasn't happened to me yet?

To the right of Qualified to work on Transcription Tasks is not less than 90. You do not have a value there? It should be under Your Value. Maybe like you said, they're doing it gradually.

You should also have reviews come up. The required score is 90.

They come up. I requested it a long time ago, but I've never gotten it.

Full Text Review is a separate qualification which we work on the Crowd Virtualizer Platform for that review. But you should be able to work the reviews on the amazon interface. Do those hits not open for you? If not, you should send feed back to support at Crowdsurf. There are 3 reviews up now try and open one.

I see two reviews. Both said I wasn't qualified. I was able to look at them with the accept button available. I didn't try it because I wasn't sure what would happen. I figured either it wouldn't let me do it and I would have to return it, or it would let me do it and I would be rejected because I am not qualified. I've heard of things like that before.

To be honest with you, getting the review qualification isn't that great of a milestone. Out of 1,000 25 second HITs, there's never really more than about 60-75 that get reviewed, so they are pretty rare and there isn't much money to be made on them. As ssamcd said they have some higher ranking review work to be done, but they are trying to clean up the work that is getting done on that as well, so I doubt they will be taking anyone new for that in the near future. The full-text review is great, and it amazes me that there seem to be people that are not doing anything but clicking play and letting it go through. From what I have seen, there are quite a few full-text reviewers that are doing a pretty pathetic job as well.

Here's some tips for you from common problems I see. Commas are more important than you think. If the speaker takes a long pause mid sentence, use a comma. Don't forget about commas when it is needed for punctuation as well. You ARE being graded on your use of commas, so don't think they are unnecessary.

Secondly, your browser should point out misspelled words. It doesn't take too long to go back and fix it, so definitely pay attention to that.

Don't use "..." or "(no period) at the end of a segment that ends mid-sentence. Don't use a "-" at the end of a partially spoken/stuttered word (And then I said ba-, bark like a dog < incorrect).

PAY ATTENTION TO FILLER WORDS. Every uh and um should be transcribed, with a comma after, and NOT before.

Those are some pretty common things, but there is a whole lot beyond that. And, like ewd said, the guidelines change occasionally, so if it says to view the updated guideline, don't ignore it. The guideline seems long and complicated, but it really isn't, and it amazes me at how many people just ignore it altogether.

I just got a really annoying rejection from them. It was for a five cent hit and very short and simple. I couldn't understand the domain name in an email. I Googled some domain names that it sounded like, but I couldn't find one that I thought fit. So I made it Name@ iii .net. I figured that is what I am supposed to do. I requested that they take a look again. I also had a rejection from last month for which they said I had actually done it right and someone would be following up. I never got the follow up. I mentioned this. I requested that if they couldn't look at both, if they could at least look at this one and I'd really appreciate it.

Sorry about your rejection. :( But we're supposed to follow the style guide at all times. name@ iii.net isn't the right way to do it according to the style guide. If you can't understand something you're supposed to use [UNKNOWN] or [INAUDIBLE].

    That's what I did.
    From the Crowdsurf guidelines:

    Indiscernible Audio;
Not Sure What Was Said iii or /i iii iii; [iii], (iii), Iii, III, sp, sp?, [sp], xx, [x], etc Notation can be used to replace one word, or an entire sentence.

It worked with spaces between the @ and the .net, which is what I did. I got the [INAUDIBLE] to come up. I wouldn't have submitted if it hadn't.

I'm starting to get paranoid. I had done one right after the rejected one, but before I got the rejection, which was approved. I didn't do another one from about 8:00 pm yesterday, until just now for this reason. I read the instructions and am doing my best to follow them exactly. It takes me playing the clip several times after I've finished before I am willing to hit the submit button. Even if I'm nearly positive it's right. As I mentioned, I often Google things I'm not sure of, and sometimes I even get good results from that. I found the name of a person the other night based on a quote attributed to her in the clip. I just could not understand the name as the guy was saying it. Even after replaying it several times. I'm starting to have trouble with the computer program hits. They were easy until the new capitalization rules. For instance, if I get the sentence, Do it and then hit the Space Bar., I understand that Space Bar is supposed to be capitalized, but I don't know if it should be Hit or hit. It wouldn't be capitalized in regular usage, but they don't seem to want us to do these the way you would in regular usage.
