I'm looking for workers age 40+. I'm worried if I state that in my HIT people will lie about their age. Suggestions? Should I be concerned?

    Yes you should be concerned.

It is highly suggested you do a screener of some sort.

You can set up a screener HIT that maybe pays something small to ask their ages without stating what you are looking for. Once you screen them out, assign these people qualifications to take your survey.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

Thanks for the tip - in the past I have simply posted in my HITs something like "we're looking for a varied demographic, and you will know in the first minute if you have qualified". Then they enter their age and get a message not to continue if they don't match the range. This seems to have bothered some workers, because they took the initial 10 seconds and then got asked not to continue. I see the value in your method. Are there easy instructions as to how to assign qualifications?

In regards to your concern about ages, I noticed how many different hits require extensive survey questions before you're allowed to do the hit. It was never like this back in 2009 when I started turking. I have done it on and off since then without ever really getting serious about it. I'm turking again for some extra money for my upcoming Vegas trip. It annoys me that you answer all those questions about the survey only to find out that I'm not qualified!

Another option you have is to pay a small amount for the hit, say 10 cents or so, and then if they qualify give them a bonus for taking the longer survey.
