Hello fellow turkers, I've been working for claritrans for a while now. But I've noticed that the audio player is not good enough. In fact its a nuisance in making money. One cannot slow down the audio, nor jump back and forth by 5 or 10sec. Is there any way of downloading audio to a local media player or anything by which we can kave ciontrol over the audio? Please help guys as it can help in improving tge rate of making money.

Yes, you can download the audio. I believe the player is quicktime for claritrans. Right-click the arrow in the right end and click save as source.

I download on to my media player all the time, I hate the audios that are on most of the transcription hits.

Also you can get a free download of one that is made for transcribers, I forget the name of it escribes or something like that, maybe someone will jump in with the link. You might like that better than media player as you can really slow it down with that.

hey, I know I can download it manually but I want the audio to play automatically in vlc media player as soon as the hit loads instead of playing in onlindd player. download ing and playing in vlc player takes time which is not affordable for audio of 35 sec or less.

Well, that depends on which browser you are using. Every browser has its own plug-in management options. If you're using FF, do this:

    In menu,
    >> Tools
    >> Options
    >> Applications
    >> Search MPEG Layer-3 Audio

Click "Use other..." in the drop-down menu and select VLC.

Yes, that's pretty impressive info, abrahamrohithroy.

Regarding whether you can download Claritrans audio, you can't now. I am curious as to whether that prevents this techie-cool workaround from working.

The reason I know about the lack of downloadability is that someone wrote me to say they were getting "Permission denied" whenever they clicked on a Claritrans download link.

I took advantage of the opportunity to "secret shop" Claritrans' service. I wrote them this note (copied it from the reply they sent me, since of course you can't BCC yourself when sending notes through your MTurk dashboard):

I got the following response, which was useful but not exactly friendly, if you see what I mean:

Bit clueless of him to suggest that anyone contact Amazon for support on his HIT, lol.

In any case, if you get the harsh "Permission denied" message on your download attempt, it's because Claritrans doesn't officially support downloading their audio. I was amused that James didn't bother to apologize for including it in their HIT when it's not working and won't be fixed!

And if you have express scribe installed, you can actually have the audio file open directly in express scribe by selecting it as the audio player, as abraham described.

If you have recently installed Firefox it comes preloaded with an embedded vlc player. If you want to have a decent link to the audio file so you can open it in the external player, disable this plugin.

    In menu,
    >> Tools
    >> Addons

And then click disable next to the VLC Web Plugin addon.

    Major time saver.

Hm, I don't actually have "MPEG Layer-3 Audio" as a choice within the Applications once listed, so I can't "Use other." I'm running FF in both Linux and Windows 7 and don't see it in either.

How can I add it so to be able to "Use other"?

(Happily, I can just right click the area where the player is supposed to load and download the file manually, but I suspect that's a function of my using NoScript and not allowing claritrans.com, more than how they intend it to work. I'd love to know how to get it to download automatically.)

LOL, I figured it out. I'm embarrassed it was so obvious. Works great!

I'm collecting and clarifying the info on Claritrans downloading and will post on it at my blog later this week, crediting the thread for this particular trick.

ETA: Did that. :) The post is dated December 13.
