I agree TurtleTape - I am qualified to edit, but I hate it. I take too much time because I'm afraid of missing something. And I'm sick of surveys. Would much rather write. I like the new layout too.

I'm bad at editing, so bad at it, it would really just have been a waste of time to try it out. I'm going to have to put out a high volume of writing this week in order to pay rent next week, so hopefully it'll pick up a little in the next couple of days. And yes, sick of surveys and low paying days.

Well, I got 1 article and 1 recipe. It looks like they should all be done before the end of the day, so hopefully CS will review them, look at the feedback and open up more. We'll see how long they sit before they're approved. I have editing hits going back 2 weeks.

I was able to write one article today, then when I got home from church, there were those difficult topics left only (taxes, etc). I like the new format also, but I want more articles. I can edit, but it does take a while to do it accurately. Oh, well.

I've done two 300 word articles and two recipes, just accepted another recipe. Hopefully they'll release a larger batch tomorrow and everything approves quickly. They really should have done this phasing in during the two week block.

So glad to see the machine moving again, even if it's just a trickle at this point. Already been able to edit/write callouts to make this my best day all week. Hopefully it keeps up all night! Thank you article writers :)

I have over 90 waiting for approval since April 8, 9 and 10. In the meantime, I'm not able to do any of those categories..."as soon as these are approved, you can do more...check back in a bit" - yeah, by the time they get around to them, my cat will starve to death...

In the meantime, they are putting out new guidelines (which I like - I think it will help writers and editors at the same time) - I love to edit, writing not so much. But it would really be nice to get paid!

Yes they were right on top of new stuff today. All my stuff approved up until they went home. Good to see them on top of it, hopefully it continues.

Now, if they will just release us to start working again...they ARE getting it together, though, so am sure they will turn us loose again today! I have to give them credit - they were really in the weeds, but it appears they have really worked their butts off to get on top of this ... hope it continues!

    Samples of different assignment types

    Hi all,

Sorry if I've missed these answers elsewhere. I'm new to all of this.

Is there anywhere with samples of the different types of writing assignments, Do's and Don'ts, recipe articles, etc? I always like to read multiple samples before setting out to make sure I'm writing to form.

Also, I've seen a lot of posts talking about "Call Outs" -- what are these?

    Thanks so much!

The only samples we have are the ones offered in the instructions.

Callouts are just little tidbits of information that are added to articles by other writers, it's $2 a callout.

Not sure I like all the nit-picky feedback now. The checklist that editors have goes to the writers. I always feel like I'm being "dinged" when I get feedback, even if I'm not. So, if I miss a comma or two, am I eventually going to lose my qual?

Got my first rejection today. :( Didn't read directions carefully enough.

Well, if the editors don't mention it, THEY get dinged, and much worse ;) Personally I would much rather have an abundance of feedback than not enough. Don't get down, just focus on improvement. Personally I think writers should also try their hand at editing. I got much better at writing callouts after I saw the mistakes of other people while writing them. I think a lot of time writers just write, and don't look back over their work for simple errors. Some of the stuff I see is just horrendous. I wouldn't worry about missing a comma or two. I would worry about things like repeated first person or future tense, and lack of improvement.

I thought the "dos and don'ts" articles could have only 2-4 sentences, instead of having to have at least 3 per paragraph. I think I had forgotten in the two weeks that maybe it's only the step-by-step (or whatever they were called) articles that could have 2-4 sentences.

Oh, I am an editor also. It does help to be both to improve both aspects of my work. :)
