The new editing test is up now. I just spent an hour on it and am taking it much more seriously than last month. I would write, but the backlog is making me poor.

The backlog shows they clearly need editors.

I should do the editing test, I'm just not very good at editing and there's so much distraction right now (at the parents' for the holiday) I don't know if it'd be a great idea to try a new test :/

Unfortunately, we are limited in the number of edits we can do, and the turnaround is slow there as well. So I've taken and passed the editing test, but I'm waiting for my 5 edits to be approved before I do anything else. As a result, I've only got $10 pending for this week.

Crayonshaver, have you done any of the Recipe Edits? I too, have 5 edits for the 300 word articles pending (have been for a week), but I can do the Recipe Edits. I have about 10 of those pending and can still do them. Apparently many people have, because there's only 45 left right now.

No wonder the editing hits aren't going anywhere. I failed my test a couple days ago :( Now there's nothing for me to do with CS :(

Does anybody know when the Top Tier qualification test will open again?I know that it's been closed since about mid Febuary and it's almost the middle of May,which is may past the 2-4 weeks they said. I also emailed a person there and the response was " The test will be open shortly",which is pretty open ended to me.

We don't really have any way of knowing. Considering how backed up they are on edits, though, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a bit of a wait.

So how long has there been nothing to do, and how much longer is it supposed to go? :(

I did a ton of editing on recipes last week - something like 76 over three days. Then, of course, there were "no hits left" when there clearly were. As soon as they "approve" those, the field will open again. I'm backed up in all the other editing areas too, because they don't have enough people to approve or whatever the heck it is they do after we've done the work and I personally don't think they know what the heck they are doing. So frustrated with them. I'd rather only be allowed to do 20 a day, get paid for them the next day, and then be able to do another batch. SO FRUSTRATING!

Yeah, it's like they want to get this massive amount of work done, but still double-check everything by doing the work themselves. Maybe that made sense at one point, but at this point they are just costing themselves money. Time to either hire more people or start handling workflow differently.

I agree Happy Fish - why the heck double do the work. If they don't trust us (and we ARE going to make mistakes, even if we are uber careful) then they should just do them all themselves.

I was reading above about the callouts - changing the qualification for that - I thought they just didn't like my style (well, they don't in come cases, I guess). It would be very nice to get some kind of a heads-up when those qualifications change instead of making you feel like you're stupid or something.

Some of the work I see cross my editing screen is bad, bad, bad...it would also be helpful if they let us know at what stage this editing is. Are we editing a testing, or are we editing a finished article, or what are we doing? Oh, that's right...THEY don't know what they are doing, so why should WE know - I'd laugh, but it's not funny. I'm glad I'm not the only one who is annoyed!

I totally understand lol. I finally got my grading limit lifted, and they said "Pay attention to feedback!" The first feedback I got was like two weeks later, and it was that they were limiting my grading HITs. And I'm practically begging for feedback about how to handle tricky situations. I can't even figure out what's wrong because even on the webpage there's no difference between my scores and the 'accepted' scores.

    *headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk**headdesk*

Not to mention that when I failed the editing test, they didn't actually tell me why. How am I supposed to get better? It's like they want to FIND great editors and not MAKE great editors. Of course both e-mails that I have sent to them about these issues have gone unanswered. Meanwhile I'm wandering around turk with nothing to do. It's frustrating because I want them to succeed and am willing to work 10+ hours a day to help them with their bottleneck, it just seems like they are way over their heads.

I think my grading limit was lifted after the first twenty or so...but now it appears I am limited on every edit job -and I truly think it's because THEY can't handle how we turn them around. I supposedly "failed" the content editor, but they have me at top tier editing...go figure that one out (I'm not complaining, just saying...) And if I hear the word "serial comma" again, I'm gonna scream! There was no such thing when I grew up learning English writing! AP can kiss my...well, you know...LOL :)

But how can they have time to offer feedback when they are so swamped. I'm willing to work hard, too, but I'd like it to be a consistent basis. I don't do this cause I don't need the money, I do it because I DO need the money!

I feel your pain, everyone. I passed the editing test to get to a TT editor's position on April 3 or 4. I got my five "test" edits done April 5. I have had zero feedback since then and no acceptance. I then did a bunch of recipe edits, but those ran out as well. I just want to work! If they have over 10K editing HITs available, why are they not letting us editors (new) work??? I did email them a few days back, but I haven't received a reply yet. Either let us edit or put new articles up to write.

Agreed. Here's a question for ya? If we are editing, say a recipe, and the intro sucks and needs "rewriting" then are we doing more than "editing" what is already there. And if we don't straighten that intro up, will that come back to haunt us?

I just find their instructions on each job confusing. Don't they have a standard format? Well, I know some require sentence headings and carp like that, but really...no wonder every one is confuzzled.

I'm not an TT editor, I can't really help, but...... When I do callouts, I will significantly alter the structure if it's necessary. I'd rather over-edit than submit something that sounds bad. As far as I'm concerned, what gets submitted by me may as well have been written by me.

Isn't it interesting that the writer gets paid $11 to do a so-so job (in some cases) and editors are paid $2 to basically rewrite the article; yet, they don't generally care for my TT writing skills...:) As you said above *head desk**head desk* - LOL

That's why you have a backlog of 16000 editing HITs :p

They apparently raised the newbie editing limit to 10 today for all HITs. Too bad I already edited like 45 recipes which are now included in that. Here I STILL sit, waiting for work.

Good point, pieper, about the editing/pay.

They SAY the limit was raised to 10, but I haven't heard from a single person that is able to do more than 5.
