3800 really - the discrepancy must be your returned or expired hits, but you probably figured that out. Wonder how Amazon came up with such a seemingly arbitrary #?

I don’t understand why people perceive that 3800 number as something to shoot for. More than once I have seen people on this forum bragging about hitting that number, and then a week or two later crying that they had been suspended.

That isn’t a goal to shoot for - it’s a red flag for the people at AMT.

truth be said, AMT doesn't want a single user to submit like 3000 or more hits everyday because most of them are majority hits and the hit is only correct if only more than one person give the same answer. Now if a single person submits all the hits for a requester then there is not way for AMT to decide which are the correct ones. So refrain from submitting mass hits for a single requester. You can spread it around by submitting hits for various requesters. Some of the AMt account have been suspended for this reason because the turker thought that it's his job to submit hit like crazy and get paid more but in the end his account was suspended.

    Numbers Game

Probably something to do with the number of HITs worked per hour for a set number of hours.

For example, 200 HITs per hour for 19 hours = 3800 HITs.

Now, I doubt anyone except for the most dedicated and caffeine-fueled turker could maintain this pace for this length of time, but let's say someone's cranking out the HITs at 4 per minute. They'd be doing 240 HITs per hour, and it would still take them 15 hours and 50 minutes to do them.

Here's a table showing how long it takes to do 3800 HITs:

    HPM/HPH/TT
    3/180/21 hours, 6 minutes, 40 seconds
    4/240/15 hours, 50 minutes
    5/300/12 hours, 40 minutes
    6/360/10 hours, 33 minutes, 20 seconds

I don't know if it's even possible to do a job much faster, because the last row would be doing a HIT every 10 seconds, which has got to be getting close to the limits of a human being's ability to do work on MTurk.

I suspect anyone who is doing 6 HITs per minute is probably using some form of computer assistance, such as a program or script to automatically identify test questions in HITs and mark them correctly, leaving only unmonitored portions of the HIT for them to work. This would be easy to do, because the number of test questions in any group of HITs is likely to be very small, say 5% or so.

I also question someone's ability to do a good job in 10 seconds, but then again, if you're only making a penny or two, how motivated are you really to do a careful and thorough job for such a skinflint?
