Ugh Speechink is bumming me out! No bonuses and more work for less pay? It would be nice if we could all band together and 'strike' so their hits don't get done to show them what we think (since emails are going unnoticed), but there's always someone willing to work at third world sweatshop rates.
Turkers of the World... Ah, Forget It! To be fair to SpeechInk, they're not offering more work for less pay; they're offering the same amount of work for less pay. Striking only works when the bosses pay attention because the work's not getting done and they're consequently making no money. As you said, there's always going to be somebody who's willing to do the work, no matter how badly it pays. They'll just do a crummy job and the work will sit for longer.
Now that SpeechInk has grouped, cut the bonus and reduced the pay rate, I'm not gonna touch it with a ten foot pole. I've done more than 500 Home Inspection Audios in the past and I have a 100. This change of strategy is never gonna do them good. I'm sure they will lose most of the good transcribers out there who were doing genuine work for them. Those someone who are still willing to work will never be the ones that can turn in quality work. At the end if they realize this fact, there is a chance that they're gonna revert back to the old rates.
It is actually great to hear this from a Turker who lives in a place that, some people have said, companies like SpeechInk are targeting with big paycuts like this. Of course, you have been working for them already, and that means you would notice a heckuva lot more that they've made such slashes to their rates. Good for you, anyway. I hope, also, that companies like SpeechInk come to their senses about what this is going to do to the quality level of their transcriber pool. Let's hope that they care enough about that that the resulting changes will snap them out of this.
Nope not a single one and they approve pretty much immediately so I guess they're not bothering with the scoring system anymore either. -shrugs-
In the new format, if you're returning the HIT due to poor audio in the subsequent parts, they're still getting the previous parts which we've done until then. Imagine how many free transcriptions they're getting now daily. Well played SpeechInk.
