ClariTrans Guidelines Update

For the transcriptionists here, I just wrote to ClariTrans to ask them how they'd like us to format all the specific math and computer terms from the lectures we've been getting lately.

Here's their reply. This isn't in their Guidelines page yet, but it looks like they'd like us to get used to it ASAP.

We are in the process of updating our ClariTrans guidelines. As we roll out the new guidelines and update our certification process, we're asking you to please start incorporating these changes:

For mathematical equations, all numbers in equations should be represented with real numbers and available keyboard symbols.
This symbol (*) should be used for: "x, multiplied, times, etc."
This symbol ( /) should be used for: "÷, divided by, etc."
These symbols (+, -) should be used for: "plus and minus"
The equals symbol (=) should be used for: "equals, is equals to, etc."
The carrot symbol (a^2) should be used for: "a2, a squared, a to the second, etc."
For example, preferred format: 9^2 - 3^5 = -3^x

Instead of: nine squared minus three to the fifth equals negative three to the x

Reviewers please accept either format until the changes officially go into effect.

Also all variables should preferably be represented in lowercase form (e.g. the integers m and n are consistent with a and b in this Boolean equation) and abbreviations for organizations or groups should be represented with all capital letters and no periods (e.g. AFL-CIO).

Whenever possible, please Google scientific names, jargon and proper nouns to ensure the correct spelling.

Do you have the reviewer qual?
How can you be sure all the reviewers know these new guidelines. Put yourselves in their shoes if you are not one. They'll easily think that we've cheated if they don't know these "new rules". Well, I'm not following these until the changes are officially updated in the guidelines.

No, I do not have the reviewer qual. I just figured I'd pass on the information that I was given. Do with it as you will.

Thanks for sharing that information. I have to admit I never check the guidelines for updates.
