being a turker sometime myself, i always found the amount of work compared to the pay or redunancy of the tasks to not be worth the effort

ive started a couple websites on the side to make some residual income ( not going to mention them, not asking so i can sell you something ) ... i mention it cause i use some freelancing sites that albeit not top dollar seem to offer better work and time/pay ratio

if you want some other avenues to make some money online, have you guys looked into working on fiverr, odesk, elance or other freelancing sites where you can get some more money when " gigs " come up - you can offer your writing skills, graphic design, editing skills, etc ...

I can't seem to get any work from the likes of oDesk and eLance. The good employers are looking for workers with a good track record and I just seem to attract scammers who want me to pass a "test" that involves providing them with free words. Every job that interests me has already numerous applicants, most of the time I hear nothing back at all. I could spend all day searching for and applying for work on those boards and not actually get anything in. Total waste of time, IMO. That is for me personally. Someone with a good portfolio will probably get work a bit easier (I'm trying to work on that bit).

Oh I've been writing for years. I have probably over 400 published articles through several places... Yahoo being one of them. I make fairly good through that. I came across this by accident a year or so ago and starting doing it to supplement my writing. Funny thing is there are a lot of writing HITs but I don't do them because I get paid way, way more to write and publish elsewhere. I don't get paid per article I get paid through several ways... every time someone reads one of my articles I get paid... so I'm not wasting my time writing for 5 or 6 bucks when I can make residual income from writing.

There's a lot of places you can make money online... I also have my own website which I've actually had for a few years! It makes pretty good and gets quite a few visitors. I think a person needs to broaden their horizons and do several things to do well online. Writing is a good income but there are slow times and things like this help. I have a nice steady flow of income now. If anyone can write it's best to have your own site and find a good source to write for... yahoo or google.. I write for both...

I've been working for Textbroker for about a month now. It can take awhile to wade through the orders to find something I feel confident about writing, but there's always something, and I've had really good experiences with all the clients there so far.

When you say "Yahoo or Google", I assume you're referring to Yahoo Voices and Google's HubPages? If so, how would you compare the two? I have an account on both but have been mostly focusing on HubPages so far, just because it's a little more familiar to me.

I do write for Hubpages as well... I don't write for yahoo voices though... actually I've never heard of that! I write and publish straight through yahoo.

Hubpages is a pretty good place for writers... however I noticed since google redid their formula a while back that making money is much harder through hubpages... I was making 10 times more before that happened. I still do well but not nearly as well as before through that site. I think hubpages is a good place to get started writing.

"Yahoo Voices" used to be "Associated Content." I don't know much more about it than that, since I haven't done much with my account so far.

Yes, Panda is a new(ish) search algorithm that Google started using to try to combat all the "content farm" sites that would load crummy articles with SEO terms in order to flood the search results and get clicks. I'm glad that Google is trying to corral the junk, but I guess some real writers are feeling the repercussions, too.

(My best stuff is saved for my own website, too, but I like the idea of content farms. I don't get nearly as much traffic as they do, so I appreciate the income and the exposure.)
