I went to transfer my money, and it tells me my account has been suspended. I've contacted MTurk by email, but can anyone tell me why this might have happened? Since I'm kind of a newbie to the forum, I have not ever heard of account suspension until today when Playa made his thread. I thought maybe some of you who have been around would have some knowledge on suspended accounts. ...Approved 8133 99.5% ... Rejected 39 0.5% ... Pending 33 — Is this because I made the warning thread here about Jon Brelig HITs? That's the ONLY thing I can think of, and if you look at what I said, it's pretty mild compared to some things others said in the thread. The ONLY other thing I can think of is that there have been a total of 3 different Mturk users who have worked from my wireless internet, so that would be the same IP. My ex roommate used to (but she has not lived here since May) Then, 3 nights ago my brother who works on Mturk on occasion brought his laptop over to ask some questions about HITs. Could that be why? When an account is suspended is it for good? I don't understand. At all. I can't even get to my money.
I would say having 3 different users all logging in from your one IP is a very big red flag. If you haven't already contacted Amazon I would do it immediately. Usually you are informed when you have blocks but Amazon doesn't always get around to it so I would also ask them if you have any blocks on your account. I am actually sending off a mail to them now to ask for myself.. Playa's suspension has me rather nervous, it seems anyone can get suspended at any time really.
That's least likely. This is not a forum made by the Amazon people. This is a private one and I doubt whether they've even seen this forum. That is the most probable reason. 3 users working from the same IP is a huge NO-NO for Amazon. And lately, they are constantly monitoring such cases and takes them severely, I think. They might've misinterpreted it as an act of fraud. Contact them ASAP.
I have to agree. I was sad to see that Playa got suspended and doesn't know why. I am on edge thinking that I could get booted anytime for any reason...
2 Questions: Does anyone know if account suspensions can be reversed? If it's the IP thing, I can easily prove that there's no fraud. Does anyone know how long it takes them to reply to emails? There's no way to contact them besides email, right? At the very least, I NEED my money ASAP. I can't even get to it to transfer it.
Yes, I know it's a private forum, but you never know who is lurking. What you said does make me feel better, though. If it's the IP thing, I can easily prove there's no fraud. Hopefully they'll listen.
mturk doesn't care whether the other three turkers were using the same IP for their own personal mturk use or not. they are just going to suspect that you owned all the three accounts for your own personal use like submitting to the same survey three times from three different accounts. This is the only thing they will think and they won't give a rat ass whether you can prove that it's a fraud or not. mturk is the new sweatshop nazi.
Well, my roommate has not used this IP since May. My brother only signed on 3 days ago for 10 minutes to ask my about a qualification. He didn't even complete a HIT. This is awful
It doesn't matter when they have shared your IP address. Even if someone accesses mturk using your IP address even once, it's enough to register you as a multiuser in Mturk servers and computers don't forget anything. Or maybe mturk has just made it a very strict policy not to allow multiple users on the same IP address, so they banned you even if your relatives used the IP for a little time, so that you can spread the word about mturk policies everywhere like you're doing at this forum and nobody else will even try to do that again.
I'm sorry for you but you need to think how mturk computer thinks before you would have allowed other people to use your IP address. If I had to like scam mturk then I will use three different IP addresses and use profiles of people to register accounts who don't have any relation to me on documents for mturk is getting heavy on that too.
Thanks. I understand the whole IP thing and how computers red flag that, but I didn't know or realize how strict they were. My brother and stepmom both do Mturk from the same home (not mine), and my ex roommate and I both worked on Mturk using same IP for months back in the spring. I didn't realize that IP alone was enough to make them block me. Hopefully they'll reverse it.
I'm sorry I keep on, but I'm devastated. Not being able to get to my money is the worst part. I'd worked so hard this week to get enough $ to pay my utility bill, which needed to be transferred today. I have no idea what I'm going to do now. Obviously, none of us are rich here (or we wouldn't be doing Mturk) so I'm not trying to tell a sob story or get sympathy. I know the logical thing to do would be to shut up and wait to hear from Mturk, but I'm not feeling very logical at the moment. My apologies.
I was suspended today as well.. no reason given. So that makes 3 of us that have decent stats (yours and Playas are better than mine, but I have a 96% approval rate, only because of a Light Buff mass rejection of 600+ hits) that were suspended today for no apparent reason.. there has to be something going on. I pray that they reverse it because I really need the money as I am expecting a baby in a couple of months and my hubby's check only covers the rent and bills.
This is freaky, and scaring the crap out of me. Three people with great stats suspended in one day for no apparent reason? WTF?
It's okay, you are devastated and you need to talk it out. maybe talking to someone in person about this who understands you and hopefully it'll help you feel better as you wait for a reply. Cry if you need to don't think it's stupid to do that. You aren't doing anything wrong and there's no need to apologize. I honestly wish you luck in solving the problem. I really hope it's just a bug and the rejections will be reversed. :/
I know plenty of people who Turk in the same house as their spouse with no issues, so I doubt it's the IP thing.
I can't imagine multiple user ids using the same IP is going to upset anyone and past history seems to support that. On the other hand, one id using multiple IPs simultaneously and performing work would be worth more attention. But from the description of the OP, that didn't happen. I'm thinking something wacky happened at Amazon (software upgrade, new employee) and this is just another slip up. That happens all the time in the work place, especially big companies.
I had 3 unique users from the same IP. Now only two. I've queried them and they are fine with that. The only thing that I could think is that maybe if you and your brother were working on the same HITs at the same time. Other than that, I have no clue. -runs* to xfer money to bank- -makes note to xfer @ every $10 increment- *Ok, so I didn't run... but I did quickly switch tabs!!
