Im gonna take a guess and say mturk is not looking for any more indian workers.

The vast majority of indian workers and notice i didnt say ALL .. But i did say vast majority of indian workers could fawk up a bowl of cereal with out even trying let alone Mturk of all things..

Sorry to say but i think mturk is tired of kicking indians off left and right so there just not gonna accept any more..

Again just my 2 cents and sorry if ive offended anyone but its the truth..

No, the only reason is that now Mturk only wants to allow turkers who are actually serious about working sincerely in mturk. Mturk must have received complaint from their clients that some workers are simply clicking at random without reading any instructions which might be causing some requester money.

Another reason might be the US economic downfall and the mass unmployment due to which many americans are now enrolling for mturk and so mturk can't manage the huge number of mturk and anyway if mturk ever had an option of selecting between and indian turker and and a US turker they might probably go for a US one.

Third, there might be many more speculations. As I told earlier mine are nothing more than speculation just like yours but you are free to.

But the question is how do they judge the seriousness of a worker even before creating an account for them?

If they have altogether blocked new Indian registration, then they should mention it on their registration page.

If they want to test the capabilities of an user they should have some qualification test created for the new users - if they pass the qualification test, hire them else fire them.

Mturk is in the process of suspending new accounts which is the same like firing them. Until this purification process continues, they won't be able to hire new turkers. Damn it, does that means that even I'm at the risk of being axed. OOOOOuuuucccchhhh.

Where in the world are you s10ii? We know for sure about Indian, Canadian and UK applicants having new accounts refused since the pre-approvals started.

I think we have also had confirmation of at least 1 new US account being approved.

Therefore I think we can deduce that new applicants from outside the US are being arbitrarily refused based solely on geographic location.

If we know where you are, it will help to add data to this knowledge.

I don't think it's anything personal - they don't know anything about the people being refused except location (as far as I know).

Its peretty simple really. They've got more international workers than they need as it is, so they're not accepting more at this time. Im personally glad they're doing this, the earnings are spread thin enough as it is without adding a bunch of new workers into the equation.

Well, given the fact that non-Indian internationals are paid in Amazon-US only gift cards, therefore creating a very profitable closed-circuit system for Amazon, you would think that we were a better deal for MTurk.

    Eh.

If it’s not Turkers from the subcontinent, then it will be underaged Turkers scrapping for their MMO subscription fees. There will always be someone willing to work more cheaply that you do, and scapegoating international Turkers solves nothing.

mTurk has a way to divide the labor market with geographic constraints already. Guess what? People still do the cheap stuff, no matter where they hail from.

Where did I scapegoat international workers? I said the money available is spread thin enough as it is, so restricting new accounts is a good thing. Its all supply and demand, and right now the demand is much greater than the supply of available work.

If you look at the largest numbers of hits, it's pretty clear that what is wanted are people who will work for next to nothing - the one-centers.

It currently *looks* as though new applicants from India are being rejected. Short of moving to the States, I don't see what you can to do change that. If and when their acceptance policy changes maybe you can get an account then, but you know Amazon doesn't communicate these things with us.

That's what is wanted from certain requesters, not necessarily Amazon. The reason they CAN offer that low pay is because many indian workers are willing to do it, as 5 cents to them is probably more like 10cents for someone in the US.
