One thing is for sure, if Amazon ever did initiate a major policy change there would likely be mass emails... I mean we get weekly summaries. Something this big, if it is bigger than some sort of anti-spamming measure, would normally generate some sort of public statement or announcement.

Yea I gotta agree with you there. If they were closing down mturk.. I would think we might know and have been notified. Turk is a cash cow for amazon. My bet is they are hopefully getting rid of troublemakers that keep registering with new accounts again and again. I would say most probably putting in some new system of account verification for the account setup process. Once they get it working right they will allow new sign ups using whatever new feature they are trying to implement. Just my best guess by the way. Doesn't mean it is true by any means but it is the only thing I can think of that would make sense of the whole deal.

OK, that email makes no sense. I know Amazon customer service reps aren't known for their stellar English skills, but they usually make more sense than that. Also there was a reason that Whimsy asked to see the headers.

Mturk's not really a cash cow for Amazon - if it was you'd see real improvements to it. I guess they make some sort of decent money from it or they'd have probably taken it down.

Why would Mturk make improvements to something that *already* makes them tons of money? You're thinking about it the wrong way; they're *not* making improvements because they don't *have* to. It's working fine as it is for them.

First off the two court cases posted were only references to cases Amazon was involved in. Once from 2007 and another from 2003. One of which pre-dates Mturk. Any company of Amazon's size gets sued on a daily or weekly basis.

While "Settle down all the issues" is legal speak, this email doesn't seem to be a "corporate form letter" on this issue. Trust me, I work in the corporate world too and I see this often! You would want to communicate an uniform message to everyone asking.

I also think if they had no intention of opening the doors to new users again, they would turn off the register for an account option on the webpage. At least have a note on the page saying.

I also would like to see headers, I can spoof an email, it is not hard.

Also ALL of my support inquiries have come from "Amazon.com" not "Amazon.com Mturk"

I agree with Scott 100%. The whole e-mail looks shady. Amazon includes their logo in their emails, the inbox seems suspiciously empty, it's just doesn't feel like a legit email. Someone seems to have a vested interest in keeping people from applying for Mturk.

...alright, smart guy. By headers I didn't mean the full screen. Where you obviously meant to hide the inbox's email address once, you left it open for view at least two other locations, FWIW. I'm guessing the one other unread email is your Welcome to Yahoo! mail, but we won't worry about that. I learned about headers about 8 years ago when I worked on eBay's Answer Center as a volunteer. Between spoof eBay and PayPal emails, a girl had to know a few things. She's since forgotten most of it except the key questions to ask. Most of them are to spray away the bull shit.

If you're a TN or reddit troll, you're going to have to get smarter about this.

    LOVE IT!

While I was comparing this shady ass email to my own Amazon correspondence, I noticed the name (mine all come from Mechanical Turk, not amazon.com mTurk). I also noticed they redacted the sent date on the screenshot. Why on earth would you need to do that unless the date is AFTER your big post?

We'll look at this like a teaching lesson. If someone else is looking at how to get smarter, they'll just have to skip all the mistakes this guy makes in the process of talking about a fake email that's relating to a real issue.

Plus I just noticed the subject "Your Amazon Turk Enquiry" The emails subject I get are "Your Mechanical Turk Inquiry"

Also there is the name of the person responding. - Don't see that here!

Workers capitalized? Thanks and Thank you used two sentances apart?
Why block out email when you see an ID "Johnmandrus3387" that does not appear to be a yahoo account?

Also I am pretty damn good at reading headers, tracing and finding the where it came from. This comes from helping a scam support group.

Sure I am making other smarter. Sure you may beable to spoof an email better.

    SHOW US THE HEADERS!

...or we could just assume it's a fake message and not give him any more attention?

I'm usually one of those people but this is money we're talking about, in the end. I don't mess with other people's money and I don't let people needlessly mess with mine.
