I have to agree. They don't suspend you for lack of activity. If you got too many rejections, or abandoned HITs, maybe. Not sure, really.

I can say for a near-fact they dont suspend for inactivity. I have gone 6+ months without logging in to Mturk. Though, I have logged into Amazon to buy things.

I started Turking in 2010 and made $3 that year - totally forgot about it. Came back in 2011 - made $6 before I forgot about it. Back in 2012 and I'm over $1k now. No, they don't suspend for inactivity.

You would have receive a mail from mturk for suspending your account.

Otherwise have you got 3 blocks by the requesters?

This three-blocks-and-you're-out rule is one I've heard frequently repeated, but do we know for sure if it's still true?

I do primarily transcription and research studies. I know for a fact I've been blocked by at least three requesters who are trying to prevent duplicates in their studies. It makes me very uncomfortable, but then I read that Amazon support reps are actually telling researchers to use account blocks to prevent duplicates.

If you look at this thread in the Requester support forum, you can see an Amazon Support Rep named Isaac saying that there are workers who have dozens of blocks and advising requesters to use them.

    forums.aws.amazon.com/thread.jspa?threadID=63786

As far as the OP's concern goes, I also can vouch that inactivity doesn't effect the account. I tried MTurk when it first started, and didn't log in for years. When I came back to it not only was my account still active, I had an old $0.50 balance sitting there waiting for me.

This is in regards to PhobicTurk's post...In case you don't want to go through the post...copied and pasted here in part what blocking does to the worker...

Looking at your use case you should be blocking workers in this example.
You are free to block the workers to prevent duplicates, this one of the intended uses of the block function.

When blocking a worker you are asked to supply a reason for the block. Either in the Requester User Interface or using the CLT/API tools.

If you put something like "prevent duplicates" then the Mechanical Turk team will disregard this block when considering the quality of a worker.

For more information about blocking workers using the RUI look here:

You might start by READING directions of the hit.. Kinda like reading the forums topic before posting in the thread to make sure your doing the HIT correctly or to make sure your not posting in the wrong place on the forum perhaps...

To many rejected hits are gonna lead you off mturk pretty fast.

Hi Flora, and thanks! Yeah, I saw that too, but I'm still not feeling really comfortable with the idea of Requesters using blocks to prevent duplicates.

For example, in that thread Isaac says that when Workers get a block, they'll get an email. Now I know for 100% certain that I have 3 blocks from 3 different University Requesters who are using the block to prevent duplicates method, yet I've never received one single email from Mturk about it. It's not like they're going into my spam folder either, because I clear that out a few times a day too.

I really enjoy research studies as a way to take a break from transcribing, but it's making me feel very unsettled and uncertain about doing them. I think it's because for so many years I've had that 3-blocks-and-you're-out rule in my head, even when seeing an official Amazon CS Rep's statement, it makes me feel unsafe.

For the OP - did you write to MTurk to ask why your account was suspended?
