Has anyone here done enough of the "regular" assignments to qualify for editor? Bonuses are mentioned for other HITs, I was wondering if they are worth doing the 200+ word summaries for $0.25. I try to get at least that much for a 50 word summary and that's even a crappy hourly.

I'm interested in the answer here too. Everytime I see the .25 HITS I really don't have the time to put into the writing but I'd like to see how it goes. I have him on my list of "to try" at some point.

He's got editing hits up for $15+. I can't see them and I don't know how many articles are to be edited/revised...so I'm just curious. Even if it's a bunch of articles I'd like having a job I could do during the day for one requester instead of finding dozens of smaller ones all day long. Gotta find that niche =)

FWIW I did a couple for this requester a week or so ago out of curiosity and received this in an email:

    "Hello,

Your quality writing is well appreciated.

The Editor recommended we send you a bonus for the good summary work you provided.

    Thanks!

NOTE: to qualify to be promoted as Bulk Writer and Editor, multiple paragraphs (3-8) are to be included in article, a title of up to 70 characters is to be included, and all work must be sent grammar correct and spell checked. "When possible, avoid short sentences. that might seem like 'notes'. taken at a lecture." Also, make the article focus on the subject matter and not on the linked report, don't talk about "the article" - better describe the news as if there would be no other report in site. (We do add a link to the source within your article). Usually a minimum of 35 approved HITs are needed prior to getting promoted."

Thank you. I've read some of the articles and I'm afraid of screwing up the technicalities. But good to know it would be 35+ in before seeing a change.

Noooooooooooo! A quarter for 200 words? You would be better off doing a survey. There are just some hits that you shouldn't do because the pay is absolutely awful, almost a joke. There are currently some hit's for 3.50 that require at least six hundred words. Remember $$/time is and always should be the final outcome.

I've just finished my first week using MTurk, and I've found the writing HITs to be my favourite. I noticed the HITs done by Chris pay pretty well and I think I will be aiming to qualify for higher paying HITs. Thanks for the info about how to get qualified, I'll be submitting as many as I can soon.

I've done quite well from the articles I've written so far. Usually the 250-300 word articles, and some 1,000 word plus articles for a pretty decent fee. I find the article writing extremely easy, and usually I can complete them in around 30 minutes tops.

The best tip I can give for article writing is to write down at least 5 topic points, including a brief explanation of what you are writing about and a summary at the end. Most of the topics are easily researched or just common sense with a little personal touch added to provoke the readers interest.

A lot of the article writing HITs require you to be from the US as a qualification, this kind of annoys me a little because I am English, and the HITs I've performed for many of the American requesters that do not require this stipulation have been extremely happy with my work.

So I'm a little perplexed as to why the requesters do not extend the requirements to British 'Turkers also.

200 words is incredibly easy. Your post is made up of 56 words, and it wasn't that difficult or time-consuming. I think when going for qualifications that will unlock higher paying HITs, then a few 25c HITs here and there will be well worth it in the end.

200 words are easy to write if you think about it. If the requester gives you a single subject, all you have to do is write 4 paragraphs of 50 words each, this is even simpler when the first will be an introduction, the last a summary, and only 100 words for the body of the subject matter itself.

Good info SoloOne. Thank you! Yeah I usually steer clear of anything under .50 but if the .25 HITS will get me to higher paying HITS I'll probably give it a go when I have the time.

You should try out the Oscar Smith HITs. 0.02 cents per hit. At most, you will make $2/hr. Compared to that, all other seems like decent pay. ROFL.

Hi, sorry for dragging up an old thread. I didn't want to spam a new one in :)

I am tempted to do this chap's work. I also find summarising, rewriting etc easy (well, I am a former journalist, I've had to write up my fair share of press releases over the years).

I think it's worth putting in the effort with these low pay "carrot-danglers" as long as the reviews aren't horrible, and his TO reviews are pretty good. If others have succeeded in gaining "promotion" it makes it even more worthwhile.

@Paul - if you're still Turking, any update on working with this requester? I am British, too. I can swap into US English very easily so it annoys me, too, that we don't get that option. I am Mainland Europe now so qualify for even less!

There should be language options, like a qualification you give/or get, to prove you can do work in that language.

I see these HITs and now he brags about there being promotion, but I've been writing for years and a 21ยข for a 245 word article is slave wage. If there's a promotion scheme in effect I imagine he's just using it to get cheap labor up front.

I try not to work for less than a half-cent per word. I've noticed requesters like Code White will settle in around that rate and raise their rate if they aren't getting any hits... but their articles can be very technical and unappealing.

That being said if there's evidence to the contrary I'd be interested. But if he's got $15 HITs I'd keep that a secret.

Since there are writing assignments up now, I thought I'd bump this old thread. I did four writing assignments for .25 ea, each one took me less than 15 minutes to do.

After completing the fourth one I got the message that I have been blocked from doing any further hits for him - I don't know if this is an automated thing but don't think the block was due to my writing quality. I checked and the hits I did complete have all been approved and are pending payment. I'm hoping four is the limit he sets for the writing test ones and that's the only reason for the block.

I got an email from him today - you have to have at least 30 approved hits before you can be considered for his higher paying ones. He told me I can continue to work on his hits but when I went accept one of them it is still telling me I'm blocked.

I emailed him again, will have to wait to see what he tells me.
