Hey everybody, just wanted to give a quick hello. I started working on mturk about a month ago, give a week or so. I just went over 12k submitted and am about to cross the $1k mark.

I was lucky to find a couple good requester's and have been riding that train as long as I can. I find myself spending every day just praying they continue to keep putting up work to do, and figured I should probably join up with a forum in the hopes to keep up to date on the good ones and hopefully find some before my current favorites run out of work.

My dilemma though, is that I love the idea of the forum and turkers helping turkers, sharing good requester's etc. But, I find myself fighting a little bit with "greed" and thinking about how sharing a good requester would take away from the amount of work I could do. At the same time though, if one doesn't share their experiences how can they expect others to share with them. I'm looking forward to being a part of the forum and hope I can help others and get some help in return.

Looking forward to what's to come in 2013!

    Grats! Welcome to the forum.

I hope you overcome the greed issue, 'cause I am dying to know what you have done 12 thousand of to make $1k in a month.

Nothing that isn't already talked about, I've been doing a lot of the school type of HIT's. I'm being vague, because I have not had a chance to fully brush up on the rules, and I notice there hasn't been a post in that particular requesters thread for a while, even though it seems there have been quite a bit of work popping up. So that led me to believe some things are talked about in a private area? Haven't figured out if you guys have some kind of protocol for talking about good tasks. Correct me if I'm wrong and give me a break lol, I just joined and haven't really learned the forum much at all yet haha.

One thing that I will say I did, that might be a surprise to some of you, is the productrnr HIT's. I actually did A LOT of them when I first started. They were just choosing if an image was adult or not (5 radial checks). I got to where I did them pretty quick. It was still crappy pay, but it was all I knew at the time and I was trying to scrape out whatever I could. Then, when I got to having over 1k pending, I found the addon that shows you ratings. Found out they had a lot of bad reviews and mass rejection complaints. At that point, though, I had already had over 2k approved without issue and a little communication with them as well. I don't know how many overall I did for them, but it was probably at least 5k of my submissions. Not a single rejection, pending HIT's never went more than 3 days. Actually I noticed they always got approved on the third day. So in a nutshell, even after I found out they had bad reviews I continued working and never had an issue.

Oh and throw some transcription into the mix too, but those three things were pretty much all I did.

That was a mouthful, sorry. I tend to drag on once I get typing lol.

Oh and I just checked, I am at about 930 and change. However, my pendings (which if continue the trend, will be approved tomorrow) bring it to over a dime.

Wow, grats again on your success.

In terms of forums, you found the right one. I have tried them all, and unless your are a snobbish, elitist prick, then you will love this one. We run a daily thread in the Great Hits forum, you can find it titled "Can't find good HITs (insert date here)? "

And I wasn't calling you a prick, I was just referring to the mindset of of some of the other forums. They consider their information for the privileged and want you to spend weeks talking about what's on TV or how your weather is or what you ate for breakfast in order to gain access to any useful information or conversation.

Here is a link to today's thread:

ChrisM.. I didn't think you were calling me a prick, no big deal.

I like that there are no private areas here and yes, I did join another as well tonight and noticed there were a lot of private areas, which led me to try here as well. Just wasn't sure if I should start throwing out good requester names right away or not.

I'm definitely not snobbish, and look forward to being here. Thanks for the congrats and the welcome.

One of the best intro threads I've seen! Welcome. :)

I do think that you are not alone in having some hesitation about putting out names of great requesters. You'll see that even here, especially some more experienced Turkers start to get a bit careful about not rushing over here and announcing every one of their finds---not right away, and sometimes not ever.

But *shrug* I think everyone figures out a balance that makes sense to them, giving you some way to be helpful to others while not feeling like you're sharply reducing your own most-valued prospects. I don't necessarily think an open forum means we can't be on here and keep a few private aces-in-the-hole, if that makes sense. :) The thing is, everyone who Turks with reasonable success for a while finds their very own of those eventually! (And those who haven't should be motivated to keep looking, which is a reason that not sharing every single thing is actually useful to others, in a sort of backhanded way. It's not often about A Big Secret that you have to find out, too, like you're in a club; it's about finding the style and work that is best for you.)

Also, Andy...don't be embarrassed. :) It's an asset that this forum is not so restricted. As ChrisM77 describes well, it gives it a whole different feel, and one I think is preferable.
