Amazon really blows my mind sometimes. When I was testing everything in the sandbox, Amazon stripped out those scripts that test for properly formatted email. Apparently, things are different in production. *sigh*
Makes me more curious about how the requester side of it works. Oh well, despite that the popups are annoying, as long as they don't mean a fatal worker error, they can be dealt with. By the way, thanks too for the extra time on the clock. If I need to go feed the cats, I can do that without losing my place. That really helps!
I wouldn't even know where to begin! But I will say this -- we (requesters) are extremely limited in what we can do by using the MTurk interface, and it is now very clear to me that Amazon prefers us to not use the interface and instead automate things by using API. Automation has its advantages, but it is very black and white -- approve or reject, no gray area or subjectivity. On another note, many of you have said you are having problems with the audio player not working. Someone just emailed me and said it had something to do with IE9 (we are still using IE8 at my company) and had to update Java. Firefox apparently works better. Just a heads up.
I'm sure fharrell is getting inundated with the "how to improve hits" emails but I have to speak up for the community of "anti N/A or other option." I did these hits when they were single phone numbers and enjoyed them, but now that they are 5 numbers it takes forever to load and if I have 4 numbers perfect but number 5 is iffy, I return it, therefore not worth it. I know this method causes me to loose a great amount of Turk cash but I have also never sweat the rejections from rogue requesters or for quality of work. Similar to Speechink Home Inspections - making 4 hits into 1 - I think people are less inclined to work on it because you have the fairly coherent speakers for 3 hits and then the one guy that's flying by the seat of his pants and you don't actually know if he's even looking at the house he's inspecting!
I'm using Chrome Version 23.0.1271.40 beta on a mac and it is working fine. Shows two players but still works. It did not work on firefox though.
That's my only quarrel. When someone with a foreign accent or someone with a unique name doesn't spell their name or email out you have to guess. And if you guess and miss spell it, you're pretty much getting a rejection. I've been doing them all day today but i'm afraid that i'm going to get some rejections because of stuff like that. I'm not the type who commits shoddy work either. I have over 6k approved hits and a 99.9% approval rate. If I miss spell something i'm getting rejected. I understand that data needs to be 100% but when people with unique names and foreign accents say their name/email it sucks having to return the hit and lose all of it. I totally agree with eagreble and split them up to 1 audio per hit. That way if it's a risky situation you can easily return the hit without feeling robbed from the time you spent working on it. Time is money, friend.
Didn't work for me with Chromium on Ubuntu. Not complaining (my fault I didn't use Firefox), but maybe it will help you to make it more accessible next time around.
There is a option on the name ones in the drop down bar for not sure of spelling and a box to leave comments. I don't remember but I think that was there for the email ones too.
I was on the email ones earlier today and that was not there. I had some who would use their last name in their email and never spell it and it being really unique. I'm just starting the names now. I do see that option for the names. That's good to know. Now I wonder if it's possible to use it more then once. He states that you must get 4 out of 5 correct to get paid.
Where did he say that? Because on a couple hits the first name was given only so I put N/A in the last name box checked unsure of spelling in drop down and left a comment. I hope I don't get rejected.
On the phone number HITs, do we have to fill in both slots? Or is that there just in case two are mentioned?
Yea, I skipped over it the first time I read the instructions, and found it when I looked again. I appreciate your help!
Ok got it to work in Chrome. and got it to work in Mozilla FF BUT had to update Java..and both of them are doing that hokey double media player thing. And for Cowfin, I put no phone number given, and put that the only number quoted appeared to be a fax # when I got that scenario. HTH
