As we all have seen we have a daily visitor from someone who has been banned from our sandbox. The troll likes to come in and run their mouth while mildly participating in threads. Overall the troll likes to ruffle feathers, start fights, clog the thread, and bring down morale. We are professional workers in this community. Please do not give in to their antics. All it does is fuel their fire while making you look unprofessional and taking away time to make money. Whether you are a lurker who obtains information or are an active member is up to you, but do not let the troll(s) take over. Put them on the ignore list and go about your business. Happy turking!

No problem. We have many new folks and lurkers who may not understand the situation or be able to spot the troll right away. Last Thursday was rough in the forum and we need to ban together and avoid that

I have quietly observed the trolling over the past week and the strong reaction to it from our members. It makes the forum an extremely negative place with VERY little productivity, especially when you have to go through page after page of quotes and responses to the trolling. I have wanted to jump in and respond but what good would it have done? The trolls are getting exactly what they are looking for when we do that.

Exactly. Even I have been guilty of responding once. I have never seen it as bad as it was the other day.. we have some very unspoken members in here but generally they all mean well. I think it is time for a gentle reminder that if we give the trolls what they want they win and we lose out on money. I think some things the troll has said deserved a strong reaction however it nearly destroyed the thread a few times. A much stronger reaction will be to ban together and ignore the troll. United we stand divided we fall like a M**** F**** :)

edit- meant to say outspoken :)

Everyone keep in mind these trolls can be hard to spot sometimes.. but they are so predictable. I smell a troll now. Do not react, just hit ignore :)

Or Andy could step in and ban the users internet protocol number, instead of just removing his registered account only for him/her to turn around and create a new one 5 seconds later, Would be nice to see some sort of Vote out option once so many people have an ignorant person on a forum ignored he/she is automatically not allowed to post in that thread.

Thats what I was wondering. Isn't there a way to ban more than just the account?

It's a pain, but it is the price of being open -- that whole pesky Liberty vs. Security thing.

Though in truth, in order to be a successful troll you have to not get twigged. Sasha Baron Cohen said of his interview subjects "if they start laughing I have lost, if they get up and walk away I have lost."

Sure is Andy can look at the internet protocol number in which this user is registering the account and ban it takes a whopping 5 seconds to do.

One troll in particular wants us to know she is here, that is why she makes no attempts to conceal herself. I think your statement is true for other trolls, but not this one.

He's a she, but yeah - you could disallow the IP, unfortunately (in this case) there are plenty of ways around that - it is a losing battle, honestly. The Internet was not designed to keep track of people and that is a Good Thing, even if it means we have a pet troll :)

Our little bunny-boiler :) It's so cute when they hide in the bushes across the street and cry, isn't it?

Ofcourse Virtual private networks or Tor or a web proxy can easily allow a person to get around such a ban, but the principle is not making it easy. Also moderating new sign ups can completely eliminate a problematic user.

The current troll isn't that bad I actually laughed due to their post in the hits section.

Has Andy ever said why he does not ban the IP address instead of just the account?

No clue, but given the intelligence of this member I doubt they can figure out how to get around it, problem solved = ) message Andy with the users registered name he can look from what IP he registered from and go from there.
