On the Catherine HITs, what would you put under retail?
Basically everything that doesn't fit any of the other categories?

Anything that sells stuff directly. They're rare. I've done about 800 of these hits over the past 2 days and I've only gotten about 10 that fit under retail.

Read the instructions very carefully on that one. Short answer to your question would be no. I added notes to anything ambiguous. My impression from her instructions is that she is picky but values due diligence.

I did about 150 of those earlier, but I am going to stop until they approve, because I can't afford the rejects.

I'm having a terrible time with these, passing on far more of them than I accept, because I can't figure out what to do with them.

Have you had any of the ones where the company's webpage is just a rat's nest of buzz words like "optimization" strung into the semblance of sentences, but without conveying any meaning at all? You can't even tell if they provide a product or a service, let alone what type it might be.

It's incomprehensible to me that so many of these places exist, and apparently generate enough cash flow to pay for staff and offices, because why would anybody pay them? What would they be paying them for?

The ones that give me trouble are the consulting vs. high-tech vs VARs. There are a lot of companies that appear to be involved in all 3 to varying degrees. I just put a quick note in when it isn't clear.

Shouldn't a consultant be able to tell you how to fill out a tax form, or market your product more efficiently, or streamline your production process, or some other thing some business might have a practical interest in paying to find out? These people are just bullshitters. Bullshitters spraying it out with the force, volume, and lack of precision of a loose fire hose whipping back and forth.

Except that literal shit has some purpose and value; you can at least fertilize a field with the real stuff.

Before I burned out completely and gave it up, I worked with big companies a lot and one of the things that you quickly catch onto is that looking like you are doing something is far superior to doing something. Actually doing stuff is risky, if instead you facilitate and synergize and...well whatever else you give the illusion of value without the risk of failure. If you have no internal moral compass, telling people what they think they want to hear can be a great living.

Boy. I wish Michelle Greene would upgrade her pay rate and then those 24 k hits she had posted might actually get done.
