Today I found two hits which could not be submitted. One did not have a submit button, but it automatically got submitted on clicking the answer. But check this hit - Answer a 10-question survey about personal data backup. After finishing the survey when I click on submit, I reach another page but the hit does not get submitted. Did anyone have this problem with this hit?
Not on that hit, but I did one yesterday on "Text Generation Evaluation" by Johanna Moore for $2.50. It was about 25 minutes of listening to machine generated text and answering questions about it. At the end, it said "Press Enter to Submit," which I did, but the timer kept running on the hit and it eventually showed up as "Abandoned." The hit never appeared in my list of hits submitted. I wrote to the requestor and Amazon - no response from either. This is not the first time it's happened to me and it's maddening. There was no option to open the test in another window, either. The hit is still there. Maybe it's their way of collecting data without paying for it.
SuzyQ, I can understand how frustrated you must be. I had spent just 5 minutes on the hit, so was not bothered as much, but in your case it must be maddening to spend half an hour on a hit and find that you have wasted your time. I had a similar problem on a hit by Eric Shannon, but the requester had solved my problem and at least responded to my message. Why don't you try and send another message to that fellow? He might take some action by your repeated mails.
I did that HIT too and the same thing happened to me. I thought it sounded too good to be true. I also wrote to him and have not heard anything back. I figured I had done something wrong, but evidently we just did all that for nothing-for free, I mean.
I just wrote again, in a bit stronger language. I just got a response from Amazon .... Greetings from Mechanical Turk. Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, I do not have any information about the HIT in question. For further information or to report problems with a HIT, you will have to contact the Requester of the HIT as you have already done. Thank you for sending us your question and for participating in Mechanical Turk. Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question: If yes, click here: http://www.amazon.com/rsvp-y?c=fbcwfeaf3451003271 If not, click here: http://www.amazon.com/rsvp-n?c=fbcwfeaf3451003271 Please note: this e-mail was sent from an address that cannot accept incoming e-mail. If you click on the "NO" link, it takes you to another e-mail page that is associated with regular Amazon.com operations.
SuzyQ, I can understand how furstrated you must be. But I believe, you must wait for a couple of days for that requester to respond. I have been in touch with requester's and they always claim that they were extremely busy, so could not respond earlier. In fact, I got into a problem with a requester for whom I work regularly and who had appreciated my work and sent me a great mail. He accused me of copying, rejected my work and reported me. I was annoyed and kept communicating with him and sent him all the details which he asked for. Finally, after a month he accepted his mistake and paid me for that hit along with a bonus. He informed me that he had mistakenly rejected my work. That's the reason i asked you to be persistent in your efforts. I would suggest to give him a week's time to respond to your messages and send another mail if does not respond.
Thanks, I'm just going to let it go for now. But I'm always cautious about accepting a hit that is in the same frame as the hit instructions. I like to work in another browser. But you couldn't do it with this hit. Have a good evening (or day, depending on when you read this)!
UDATE: I just heard back from the requester. So he will make good on the HITS that had problems at their end. Hi, I'm the main researcher of the experiment and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by a bug within our part of the site. Concerning your payment, it is not possible to approve your assignment of this HIT. Instead I will set-up an empty HIT just accessible to you (and others who did suffer the identifcal fate) with the same reward. I will inform you about the new HIT tomorrow. It would also be great if you would not perform the original HIT again as your results in the repetition would be better due to the training, which would compromise our research. Best, Martin Tietze
Did he send you an email telling you this? I haven't heard anything, but that sounds promising. Thanks for posting.
Mysconnie, there is a compensation hit up by that requester, but it is only for those who have received a mail from him and he is paying $2.75. Hope you get paid for your efforts.
Just to put an end to this particular thread .... I got paid yesterday, and they gave me $2.75. So they came through and were honest!
Thanks. I saw that compensation HIT and went to 'contact the requester' and sent him another message about it. He got back to me and okayed my accepting the HIT for payment.
