I love Swagbucks! Even when I don't push to do a bunch each day I can easily earn $5 Amazon cards in a week or two and that buys me my e-books. I have in the past saved up for Paypal cards but that takes me too long, lol...

now - i know this was started regarding ways to work online like mturk. there aren't a lot of viable alternatives in the crowdsourcing area - mturk is "it", the good and the bad.

now, if you're wanting to just straight up make money online, do a search for
    stay at home income
    legit work from home

stuff along those lines. Never pay someone to hire you - just navigate away from those pages.
Most of the time, writing is essential. It's the nature of the market. If you're a kick-ass programmer, clients will probably forgive your tone or parts of speech mistakes because they can clean that up without having to do any programming.

Skillz are required. With mturk, more people can qualify to do the work.

eta: I have been spending WEEKS searching ways/things out. And not making money. I read here while I'm learning about different sites, requirements, options, affiliate linking, hosting, wtf meta tags are (besides outdated), aStores, squidoo, hubpages, fiverr, textbroker, Elance, oDesk, ClickWorker, aweber, clicktask, ezine, articlebase, PR Log, guru, blogger, wordpress, adbrite, flippa, digg, addthis, onlywire............et-FREAKIN-cetera.

Oh, I'm going to find a way to not have to turk, but not turking to investigate is horrible for my bottom line.

Whimsy - Well, anyone I suppose... Just whimsy brought up programming which reminded me of lynda.com

My father (whom I lost contact with when I was 8, and 4 months ago met again) bought me a one month subscription to lynda.com ($25).

I must say it's AMAZING. I've gone through the internet, and torrent sites downloading gigs of material for teaching myself Java/C++/HTML etc..
This site has TONS of videos on all sorts of stuff. Programming, graphics, etc etc. The videos are VERY easy to follow, and I absolutely love it.

Somewhat off topic, but at the same time it's not as i'm learning programming (and web design. They have good WordPress tutorials) and other online based job skills to help further my online career.

So if you have any interest in learning check out the site to see what they have to offer. There are a lot of courses.

I buy the $5 amazons as they are the most buck for your points. .011 or so, whereas anything higher and you're getting .007 - .009 per point and the higher of which is only when you're getting $100-$500 gift cards. I did the math on it a long time ago, I may have my findings somewhere...

For giftcards always cash out those five $5 amazons. If you have extra points in a month, just let it sit there till next month. If you're a kick ass recruiter save up for the $500 and get the limit on $5's every month.

This is textbroker.co.uk - the UK sister site.

But you might be right because I am currently living in the Netherlands so maybe they just didn't like that? Although they could have let me know!

Maybe I need to check out textbroker - I write a lot of documetation to help people do a task. Mostly "Click the start button, click on x application. Clcik on x.. It hurts to dumb things down so much at times.

Swagbucks - OK I admit I've never looked at it... but when I first got home-based (damn babies) in 2004 and began trying to find money-making opps online I got badly sucked into the whole "read email and get paid" and those traffic surf machine things (can't even remember what they call them now - damn babies ruined my brain, too). I got stung a lot and I earned sweet feck all. So I've avoided things like swagbucks thinking them to be "all the same." Perhaps I should take another look.

We should probably have two separate discussions on this - 1 for US workers and 1 for the rest of the world because it seems there are more opportunities in the States/Canada.

I wonder if the UK textbroker service just doesn't have enough clients... I mean, it let me register with Netherlands as my address etc. I just wished these places had the common decency of a quite email (even a pro forma) to let you know why they deleted you.

There are microjob sites in the Netherlands but not for non-Dutch speakers (one of my main problems for finding work is no speaky de lingo yet).

Does anyone know whether any of these sites offer steady work worldwide (not just for US, UK, IN, etc.) I live in Eastern Europe.

I had a job once creating training manuals for an in-house legal documentation management system. I didn't mind doing that but see delivering the actual training? I had rooms full of fuckwits (actually, intelligent enough people with law degrees etc) but who just flat out refused to learn anything from a wee lass without an education to her name. (OK, so my journalism diploma didn't count).

"Steady work" you are unlikely to find unfortunately. Occasional work, maybe. A decent income? Probably not.

There are European based crowdsourcing sites but not specifically EASTERN Europe as far as I know, though I may be wrong.

I briefly did some research into customer service call center from home jobs.

Wasn't my kinda thing so I never signed up. I don't know if they are another one of those scam things (pay us xx and we'll train you!) or if it's legit.

No, almost no work at home jobs charge you- If they are real anyway. Some you do have to pay for background checks- I have worked from home for a few call center types before- You can also work for Arise- or incorporate and be your own boss with them..or just work under one of the companies they have now- They have companies like Disney, Barnes and Noble etc-

Anyway all I know of is clickworker- It's just like Mturk- Same kind of stuff-

If you want to work from home doing writing, call center jobs etc-

Visit workplacelikehome.com Nice forum and they have great moderators- Friendly forum. I have worked for a few companies- A company only gets a folder on there if they are legit- Only USA workers generally- They have a writing folder on there too. Lots of information! Nothing like Mturk but you can actually make a living for most of the companies on there- Some you are self employed- Like West and Liveops- Others like Cloud10 you are an employee- And you can get benefits from many of these as well.

I am not sure where you were looking stormsy but if you are in the USA there are some great call center type jobs- One was very easy and I took calls for pizza hut. I believe that client is now with Arise where you do have to pay for classes- But for almost all- No cost ever- You just have to apply or put your resume in and you also have to go through interviews but it is generally easy to get hired as long as you have a good phone voice and they have openings- 1-800-flowers, U-haul etc all have folders on this forum and hire at home workers- Heck Amazon even hires at home workers (lol). They have jobs posted sometimes. They only hire in certain states I think though.

Workplacelikehome.com also has an mturk board as well. Good place if you want to do different kinds of work from home- Call center type as well.

I did ChaCha I had one really good payout and i'm not sure how the hell I did that. It's so tedious and time consuming, I need to finish out though because i've got $30 and I can't get that unless it's $150...another downside to working for them.

They changed things. They used to do "Red Alert" bonus systems on the regular, where if you complete 400 sessions during the time frame you get one share of the pot (which was $300+), more sessions for more shares. So, if you were in a high dollar red alert session with more than 1 share, you could make out like a fuckin bandit. They stopped that though. They also changed their payment system, it's instant now. I think just a minimum of $2 through PayPal.

I've tried going to oDesk several times and each time it crashes my computer. Has anyone else had this issue? I've tried like 8 times.

I too love SwagBucks. Just swag TV, daily poll and searches though. I earn a $5 AGC every week and a half of so. Great for those little things I'd like to order (Kindle books).

NP hun ;) On a side note idk if you guys do CS question tagging, but I think ChaCha owns that site Girls Ask Guys. They have some other side projects as well, just wish they would have made question answering worth it. Sometimes it was fun :)

I know there are some companies that hire only for UK that are answerign Texts for those Short codes to get answer to trivia questions - like ChaCha. They normlly want you to work shifts and get paid by the message. Can be some good money.

KGB KGB used to be like ChaCha - But I don't think they survived their text question service when ChaCha is free.

I do survey's that gets me about $20 extra a month on average into paypal. (easy ones to do on the iPad while waiting for someone, in the bathroom, or just one before bed.. )

I know a few others thats UK & US - some where you need a webcam and they watch your facial expressings and you talk as you test a new website. thats another $10-$15 a month

My Blog earns about $5-$8 a month off the google ads. occasional extra cents from the other links.

Just need to keep track of what you need to do, and have a check list. I amy blog about everything this weekend :)

I think it would be nice if someone wanted to repost this thread, and in the first post make a list of the websites with a short description of it. There are tons of them posted throughout this thread, hard to find them all.

I'm not a nice person so I don't want to do it.
    *passes the torch*

The thing about sites like that is that when you start you can make a quick 20-50, but then it's basically dried up. You've signed up for all the offers, done the downloads etc.

The main method on those sites is referring people.

A few of them, like SwagBucks have search, or other things that make you pennies at it. However, if you play it smart (make them your default search engine on every computer) then anyone that does a search through the address bar could potentially be earning you a few pennies per search.

Swagbucks is also cool because of it's SBTV (swagbucks TV) it's just youtube type videos in different genre's you watch 45 seconds and your "meter" goes up 10%. Watch 10 and you earn 3 cents equivalent in points.

You can also play little flash based games that earn you 2 cents per 2 games. If you're going to chill with lame games why not get paid for it?

Other than that they are lame sites and you only make the real money through advertising and gaining referrals. (One guy earned me $7 in a month. All I did was tell him about the site)

I don't have high standards when it comes to the steadiness of the work or the pay, and it doesn't matter where they're based, so long as they allow worldwide workers to do a part of their work. If anybody thinks of such a site...
